Petersens Corner
A great place to stop and have lunch on highway 49 just southwest of North San Juan is Petersens Corner. It is located at the intersection of 49 and Pleasant valley rd. Great food, drinks and service. We first discovered them when a friend took his daughter for a ride from Reno, stopped for lunch and when he went to pay discovered that he had left his wallet at home. He spoke to the owner who told him to mail a check when he got home. He even offered to loan him money for gas for the...

Moto/Java at 9th & Bryant SF
Alright, it's not in the wilds and on the road to somewhere wonderful. But if you are coming into the city to the bike shops, this coffee bar (the Java of Moto/Java) is right at the corner as you exit the elevated at Van Ness/Mission Dist. Stay in the left lane on the exit ramp and boom you are there at 9th and Bryant. Right next door is a used motorcycle and new accessories dealer (the name in Moto of Moto/Java). Both proprietors are nice straightforward no BS people and the coffee...

Tomaselli's in Elkton, OR
This is a spot my parents introduced me to years ago. They used to live in Reedsport, OR, so if I was approaching via I-5 this was right on the way. Elkton is at the junction of Hwy 138 and Hwy 38, on the way to the Oregon coast from Sutherlin (if coming from the south), and Tomaselli's is right on the main drag. Both highways are enjoyable with great scenery. I think some HOG publication named 38 to a list of great roads.
Tomaselli's is a combination bakery and cafe' with good...

Hog Island Oyster Company - Hwy 1 (Marshall)
This is one of those places a person either loves or just comes to look around and not eat. You either love the food or you don't!
One of my regular stops when I do my rides up north to Hwy 1 (which is at least once a month) is the Hog Island Oyster Company. I didn't start out liking oysters, but always loved seafood. Then one day I sampled some fresh oysters with some great sauce on them and I was hooked.
I love going to this place not only for the great menu, but also...

Phoenix Bread Company, Hopland, CA
This place is a double whammy of good food. First, they bake a large variety of breads and other baked goods (see some of the products on their website), and they are all unique and wonderful. Second, and the thing they don't tell you about, is they also make and serve BBQ there, and it is some of the best around. The Tri-Tip and pulled pork are my favorites.

Hwy 101 in Templeton. Hoover's Beef Palace.
Credit for this place goes to Bedub and Kenny (You guys know who you are if ya read this). They told us of a place down south that was a "must stop for lunch".
101 south in the town of Templeton is a place call "Hoover's Beef Palace".
Home cooked style food with huge portions that will make your eyes bulge. The food is really great and the mashed potatos taste like old style home made.
The only problem is you'll want to take a nap afterwards...:o)
This place...

Snowshoe - Arnold/Sonora
Snowshoe Brewery in Arnold (Hwy 4) and just outside of Sonora (Hwy 108) has good, reasonably priced food and GREAT beer.
Took a ride up to Arnold from Modesto today.
FYI, lots o' construction between Murphys and Avery on Hwy 4 as of 12/15/04.

CenCal Hwy 1 -- Great American Fish Co., Morro Bay
As you might imagine, they serve seafood. Mostly fried or Mesquite
grilled.
I enjoyed a grilled shrimp and scallop dish. The flavor of the mesquite was
just right. That and a couple of beers and I was out of there for less than
$20 for dinner.
