Los Mariachis Red Bluff, CA
Los Mariachis Red Bluff, CA

Los Mariachis, 604 Main St., Red Bluff 530-529-5154 Simply good Mexican fare with great service. On the corner of Main and whatever (the main drag for HWY 36 as you go Eastbound across I-5 you can't miss it on the corner in Downtown) Reasonable Prices. A good filler after you have ground off all your calories on 36 from Fortuna. Well-made food.

Red Hen Cantina in Napa
Red Hen Cantina in Napa

The Red Hen has been around Napa for AGES. It was opened by a former actress of the silver screen. The restaurant was eventually purchased by a local Napan. It is no longer at the old location, but the big red hen is still out in front of the restaurant and can be seen along Hwy 29 between Trower and Vine Hill Roads. The Red Hen serves up mexican dishes, but is known for its nachos and margaritas. They have special parking for motorcycles right out in front next to the chicken. ... Read more

The Dam Cafe - Tahoe City
1 Attachment(s) The Dam Cafe - Tahoe City

My wife and I were up in Tahoe last weekend celebrating our anniversary... We came across this little cafe in Tahoe City at the junction of 28 and 89. This was easily the coolest little cafe I have ever been in... The people are great and the food was unbelievable... We ate there 4 times in three days... Twice for lunch and twice for breakfast... Just about everything is is organic and very healthy, but very tastey.... I highly recommend the bread pudding bars.... Yummmm... I... Read more

Petersens Corner
Petersens Corner

A great place to stop and have lunch on highway 49 just southwest of North San Juan is Petersens Corner. It is located at the intersection of 49 and Pleasant valley rd. Great food, drinks and service. We first discovered them when a friend took his daughter for a ride from Reno, stopped for lunch and when he went to pay discovered that he had left his wallet at home. He spoke to the owner who told him to mail a check when he got home. He even offered to loan him money for gas for the... Read more

Moto/Java at 9th & Bryant SF
Moto/Java at 9th & Bryant SF

Alright, it's not in the wilds and on the road to somewhere wonderful. But if you are coming into the city to the bike shops, this coffee bar (the Java of Moto/Java) is right at the corner as you exit the elevated at Van Ness/Mission Dist. Stay in the left lane on the exit ramp and boom you are there at 9th and Bryant. Right next door is a used motorcycle and new accessories dealer (the name in Moto of Moto/Java). Both proprietors are nice straightforward no BS people and the coffee... Read more

Tomaselli's in Elkton, OR
Tomaselli's in Elkton, OR

This is a spot my parents introduced me to years ago. They used to live in Reedsport, OR, so if I was approaching via I-5 this was right on the way. Elkton is at the junction of Hwy 138 and Hwy 38, on the way to the Oregon coast from Sutherlin (if coming from the south), and Tomaselli's is right on the main drag. Both highways are enjoyable with great scenery. I think some HOG publication named 38 to a list of great roads. Tomaselli's is a combination bakery and cafe' with good... Read more

Negri's Original Occidental Italian Family Style Restaurant has been pleasing both locals and tourists alike and has been family owned for four generations. It all started with Mama Negri's Old World Recipes and the Family Style concept. The complete dinner is what families are accustomed to at Negri's and they do it to perfection. Joe and Evelyn Negri continue the tradition of Negri's Family Style. Negris Occidental Restaurant Located at the eastern end of Coleman Valley... Read more

Hwy 155 Kernville- Airport greasy spoon.
5 Attachment(s) Hwy 155 Kernville- Airport greasy spoon.

Located on the east side of Lake Isabella, about 2 miles south of Kernville at the airport. You can come up from Glennville (Hwy155) or the Mighty Kern Canyon (Hwy 178). Find Kernville. The BEST hamburger I have ever eaten! Warning, it is HUGE...huge enough so that they sell it in halves. My first trip there, I was hungry and ordered a whole one (with a small fries). :eat The waitress looked at me strangely (and no, not like this :love ) . When she brought it to my table, I... Cafe 108 on Hwy 108 at Cold Springs, CA (Sonora Pass)
1 Attachment(s) Cafe 108 on Hwy 108 at Cold Springs, CA (Sonora Pass)

Starting to anticipate a sierra spring ride, and got thinking about a Yosemite run...which got me thinking about food for some reason. :biggrin If you're headed up Hwy 108, there's a gem of a roadside diner halfway between Sonora (the town) and Sonora (the pass) at Cold Springs called Cafe 108 (if you get up that way: next to the gas station and just before Heidi's Ski Shop). Awesome breakfasts...awesome lunches...awesome dinners! Owners/Operators Fred & Liz are very cool... Read more

Hog Island Oyster Company - Hwy 1 (Marshall)
Hog Island Oyster Company - Hwy 1 (Marshall)

This is one of those places a person either loves or just comes to look around and not eat. You either love the food or you don't! One of my regular stops when I do my rides up north to Hwy 1 (which is at least once a month) is the Hog Island Oyster Company. I didn't start out liking oysters, but always loved seafood. Then one day I sampled some fresh oysters with some great sauce on them and I was hooked. I love going to this place not only for the great menu, but also... Read more

Phoenix Bread Company, Hopland, CA
Phoenix Bread Company, Hopland, CA

This place is a double whammy of good food. First, they bake a large variety of breads and other baked goods (see some of the products on their website), and they are all unique and wonderful. Second, and the thing they don't tell you about, is they also make and serve BBQ there, and it is some of the best around. The Tri-Tip and pulled pork are my favorites. http://www.phoenixbreadcompany.com/aboutus.html

Hwy 101 in Templeton. Hoover's Beef Palace.
Hwy 101 in Templeton. Hoover's Beef Palace.

Credit for this place goes to Bedub and Kenny (You guys know who you are if ya read this). They told us of a place down south that was a "must stop for lunch". 101 south in the town of Templeton is a place call "Hoover's Beef Palace". Home cooked style food with huge portions that will make your eyes bulge. The food is really great and the mashed potatos taste like old style home made. The only problem is you'll want to take a nap afterwards...:o) This place... Read more

Snowshoe - Arnold/Sonora
Snowshoe - Arnold/Sonora

Snowshoe Brewery in Arnold (Hwy 4) and just outside of Sonora (Hwy 108) has good, reasonably priced food and GREAT beer. Took a ride up to Arnold from Modesto today. FYI, lots o' construction between Murphys and Avery on Hwy 4 as of 12/15/04.

As you might imagine, they serve seafood. Mostly fried or Mesquite grilled. I enjoyed a grilled shrimp and scallop dish. The flavor of the mesquite was just right. That and a couple of beers and I was out of there for less than $20 for dinner. http://ian408.smugmug.com/photos/11620105-M.jpg Great American Fish Co.
