Painting sport-bike fairings...
6 Attachment(s) Painting sport-bike fairings...

I never would have thought that purchasing $40 in spray paint, and $20 in knock-off stickers would produce such a sweet product. But take a look for yourself and see what a little investment and a few hours of frustration can get you! The black and gray is the BEFORE pic, The Yellow with Triumph stickers is the AFTER pic. What do you think? If you are looking for a paint company to match your bike, visit www.towerpaint.com. They are great!

Making a Hitch for a Motorcycle
4 Attachment(s) Making a Hitch for a Motorcycle

One of the readers of my blog asked how I made the hitch for the Silverwing. So I fired him off a couple of photos and a drawing of my home made hitch. This one is made for the Silverwing but I thought it could be the basis for any hitch on any motorcycle. If you are inclined to make a hitch for your bike this may give you a starting point and shows how I made mine.

1 Attachment(s) Who needs a tire machine? Change your own!

Stole this link from another moto forum. Dunno if I'm ambitious enough to do this, but the vid makes it look pretty straight-forward. (Although I'm not sure whether I'd do this while listening to a Requiem... hmmm.) Tutorial on changing sportbike motorcycle tires

iPhone Installation on a Hog
No by lines here - this is the real deal...

Some suggestions as to selecting and fitting a (virtually), waterproof iPhone housing to the handlebars of most motorcycles - then powering it all, properly.

simple handlebar switch
3 Attachment(s) simple handlebar switch

I used a 3 amp switch from radio shack, a small piece of 5/16 I.D tube and a zip tie, it could be tied to the grip, handlebar or anywhere on the bike for accessories. you could even mount two switches for two accessories one above and one below.

Overheat fix (cheap) for Goldwing
Overheat fix (cheap) for Goldwing

The 2005 or earlier Goldwings have a tendancy to overheat at low speeds (between 16 - 24 mph). I found out about it in rush hour traffic in Atlanta. Some say it is because the air flow and radiator fans fight each other, but here's what I did and it seems to work fine. Cheap Fix - nothing fancy here.

Argh! Oil drain plug stripped out
6 Attachment(s) Argh! Oil drain plug stripped out

A few months back, during my road trip to N Cali and while changing the oil on my Hayabusa. I carelessly stripped out the oil drain plug. My heart just sank when I felt the wrench go loose only after a few snug turns.:banghead This is the first time this has ever happened to me. From what I hear, this happens alot with Suzuki oil pans. The plug still felt slightly snug and there were no signs of leakage. So I safety wired the plug back up, crossing my fingers in hopes that it... Read more

$5 Radar Detector Mount - How To w/ Photos
$5 Radar Detector Mount - How To w/ Photos

I posted this on the R1 forum a few days ago. Keep in mind, this may not work on your bike if it's not a newer R1 since different bikes have different clearance issues and different bolt locations. But, I figured I'd share it over here in case anyone is interested (or in case you have an R1 like mine). After researching the mount options available (Stem mount, RAM mount, M or K mount), I decided I didn't want to spend 50-70 dollars on a radar mount. My "cheap" version isn't... Read more

Spark Plugs
Spark Plugs

This is a step-by-step tutorial regarding changing the spark plugs on a 2008 Kawasaki Versys.

The Ninja 650R, Versys (KLE650) and the ER-6n utilize the same engine and frame and I imagine the procedure could be used for them as well.

1 Attachment(s) Stripped cylinder stud

I have been meaning to post this up. To read the start of this saga http://rossmz.blogspot.com/search/label/BMW%20Stripped%20cylinder%20stud Here is what happened today to fix it.... So how to fix this stripped cylinder stud? Get another engine. Yep I have had throw magic beans at Motohansa and buy an engine from them. Seems I have an R80 engine. Comparing the engine number against the data base at http://www.bmbikes.co.uk/chassispages/enginechassis800.htm it looks like the... Read more

How to install a Signal Dynamics lighting module
6 Attachment(s) How to install a Signal Dynamics lighting module

On my list of things to do: 1. Install a Signal Dynamics lighting module for the rear taillights. If not familiar, Signal Dynamics is a Florida based company that specializes in various types of modules. These can modulate the headlight (a headlight modulator, which I also have (yes, legal in all 50 states)) blink the brake lights in a certain way, or even combine your turn signals into running lights. I have used these before over the years, including the classic Back Off Module... Read more

What about Saddlebags, Hard Bags & Rack Systems for the Hayabusa??
9 Attachment(s) What about Saddlebags, Hard Bags & Rack Systems for the Hayabusa??

MA - As for hard bags, obviously, you've discovered that Givi doesn't have anything currently available for the Hayabusa. I think I have a photo of a busa with hardbags, but would have to poke through the archives so you could see. Maybe someone made their own mounting system. A lot of riders have gone with the Ventura Tailpack system, which looks like it works pretty good. Especially handy for pulling wheelies. :biggrin http://www.twistedthrottle.com/index.php/trade/productlist/107/... Read more

**Updated Photos**How To Install Cigarette Lighter Type Power Outlets
**Updated Photos**How To Install Cigarette Lighter Type Power Outlets

Just thought I'd post a "how to" since I didn't see one online anywhere for this simple mod. Aimed at "idiots" like me that need pictures to understand what anybody is talking about...so apologies in advance for the slow load time... If you've got a basic garden variety sportbike like me, then you may have noticed that they lack auxiliary power outlets like some fancy touring bikes have. And if you're like me, you occasionally forget to charge your iPod or cellphone... Read more
