Re: Motoport gear.
Police Kevlar pants sent today...things are starting to come together. Helmet on back order, heated jacket liner too (but I doubt that will be an issue for some time).
Gotta say that the Ultra II mesh jacket looks and feels like it would survive a fall into a razor blade spill. Hope not to test it though. :whistle |
Re: Motoport gear.
Got the pants back today good turn around time indeed and they look fine. They could not let them out without a huge bill for the time (would be better to simply buy a new set). So now all I need is a helmet (maybe this week) and the clavicle to repair to put me on the road. :gaah

Re: Motoport gear.
I just bought a new RF 1000 from my local Cycle Gear for $314 including tax. I tried it on in the store, and then they ordered me a fresh one. it took three days to get it. Great service and best price I found by about 40 bucks. From brick and mortar local guys. Street helmets 20% off this month. Hey Mark, did you get the new Quad Armor in your jacket?

After reading up on gear last fall, I went for the Motoport Air Mesh Kevlar jacket and pant combo a couple days before Christmas. My mom took receipt of it in mid-January, just three weeks later. Not bad for a custom order :).
My wife and I got back from Thailand at the end of April, and its first trip was across Canada from Toronto to Vancouver, averaging temperatures between 32-40 degrees. We were aboard a relatively unprotected FJ1100. The jacket was worn with a T-shirt, Motoport thermal liner and rain liner; the pants were bought without liners so I wore jeans underneath. At 40 degrees and above, this set-up was warm enough for 10-hour days at 60 mph. Below that I threw my one-piece raingear on to help break the wind and I will say it was a success. [I would be looking for extra collar protection from the liner in a future order; I got away comfortably with a silk scarf.] So, 40 degrees or above, for me this gear is proven to work well without electrics or an extra windbreak. Below 40 and down to freezing, the gear was still fine without electrics BUT with an extra windbreak. Two weeks later, its next trip was from Sacramento to Victoria, BC. Although it never saw any heat, it was certainly a comfortable suit in the prime riding temperatures even with jeans on and both jacket liners in -- something I thought would have lead to over-heating. And with Victoria recently touching 80 or so for a day, this gear was fabulous when used unlined and worn with a simple T-shirt and underwear beneath. I certainly have no reservations in my mind of it being fine approaching 100 degrees provided you keep moving. (I ride often at that sort of temperature in Thailand so I do have a some tangible frame of reference to back up this speculation.) All round, my strongest impression is that this stuff is versatile. On the heels of that I would say you certainly feel protected on all fronts. And if this mesh kevlar is truly as tough as the technical records claim it to be, it handily surpasses leather as functional road-riding gear for my money. I should add that with only some 5000 miles on it, never washed, the gear has softened up considerably and its fit is improving with age. So far, so good. |

You know, i didn't want to wash them because mine are the cordura and i feared that the hole would just unravel more. I got them back just before my ride over the Sonora Pass last Friday... LUCKY FOR YOU, BUDDY! I knew EXACTLY who to come find if i was forced to wear jeans and bricklayers kneepads all day!! :rant Seriously though, the service on that stuff can't be beat. they basically put a gusset in for me, free of charge. and the turnaround was lightning fast! |
Re: Motoport gear.
Mine is three years old, blue, and tri armor. The quad armor isn't listed on the website yet, but when I spoke to Wayne to thank him for the quick repair time on my gear(hey Sarah!) he mentioned it. You send your armor in, and he puts the fourth coat on it, then sends it back. My Ultramesh would run 200 for the coat and 100 for the pants. He says it improves it's protection by 50%. Maybe when and if mine wears out...

Re: Motoport gear.
Well Dom you look overjoyed to have this new gear.:D
Like your description about the mesh feeling like a cheese grater. It sure is stiff at first. |
