Overheat fix (cheap) for Goldwing
The 2005 or earlier Goldwings have a tendancy to overheat at low speeds (between 16 - 24 mph). I found out about it in rush hour traffic in Atlanta. Some say it is because the air flow and radiator fans fight each other, but here's what I did and it seems to work fine.

You can also run Engine Ice. I find it has helped my V-Twin that runs really hot. When it gets super hot (ambiant air temp) not riding is the only thing that helps, but otherwise, it's been a big help. Only drawback I've found so far is during these lovely winter riding months, it takes a little longer to get up to the temp the mfg wants before taking off. The manual says to warm the bike up to 180 but right now, if it's 50 deg (give or take) it takes quite a while to get there. Not a big deal though. Better than having it get to 220+ just tooling around.

Re: Overheat fix (cheap) for Goldwing
Unfortunately almost all the additives out there are gimmicks.
I did a lot of research on it, including getting the engineers from a client I work for lots of beer to work on the problem (coolant and lub manufacturer). Bottom line, nothing cools better than H2O. Antifreeze simply adds corrosion protection, lubrication, raises the boiling point and lowers the freezing point. Engine Ice is just Propylene Glycol (not as efficient as ethylene glycol used in regular antifreeze), but not harmful to animals. |

I own a 2003 Goldwing & am experiencing the same problem. I would be curious to hear about your fix for the problem. Thank You!!

Re: Overheat fix (cheap) for Goldwing
I ride a 04 Honda ST 1100 and I had the same problem, and what I discovered is the vacume line that comes off the top of the radiator for the antifreeze recovery system had a crack in it, so when it over heated it would push the antifreeze in the canister but it wouldn't let return when it cooled down, so the radiator antifreeze was allways low, and as soon as I replaced it the problem went away, it was that simple, Don't get me wrong it took me a couple of months to figure it out, just before I went and bought a new water pump
