If the bike isn't running you can shift through the gears W/O the clutch. Just rock the bike back and forth a bit to take the load off the transmission while gently moving the shift lever. You can...

1. the bike is NOT unridable..... With minimal skills/practice the bike can be easily ridden w/o a clutch
2. the bike is NOT stuck in first gear unless the shifter is broken as well..... the clutch...

It looks like you took the "trailer road" which looks like that no matter where they put the gravel. Next time take the road past the lake and off the cliff. It's a lot cleaner and has better views.

Not yet. As of last month it was a rocky, dusty waste of fuel.

The Forest Service is working on paving it as we speak (type) but I don;t see it getting done till fall of 2013 at best.....

If you could BMW (car side of things) wouldn't offer "rim insurance" for the butter soft crap they put on the cars. The BMW bike rims are soft as well.

I've heard it's usually a $50 deductible if...

Looks like we have another one going to the north. Looks to be in the Lassen area but looking over the ridges can be deceiving......

162/Oro Quincy should be good as long as the fire doesn't head South. Quincy to Lassen is good to go. Hwy 89 is a long way from the fire. This may change, but I doubt it.

Consider Hwy 70 closed from Cherokee Rd to the Jct with Hwy 89 west of Quincy. The smoke from the Chips Fire is terrible and sometime this AM the fire jumped the river west of Belden.......

Unless you want to go south to 80 or north to Susanville it's the ONLY way to go......

65mph limit east from Portola. Pretty straight and boring but the scenery can make up for it....

Cow Crap

The cattle trucks are rolling towards the high country (met 4 of them east bound on Hwy 70 today) which means there WILL be cow crap in the corners.... This is almost as slick as Whale crap on an ice...
