    Dualsporting in Oregon

The OMRA Dualsport series in Oregon is a great bunch of events- check out Tawm'sBlackDog website[/URL] for the schedule and more information.

The Scaredy Cat Dualsport will be held out of the Detroit Lake area(in Oregon near Mt.Jefferson, a bit SouthEast of Portland) August 21. Danno is setting this up for beginners, big bikes and sidecars. It ought to be a fun ride through the woods with out involving broken limbs or busted bikes...http://www.blackdogdualsport.com/sc_events.htm

If IMWA comes through, I should be there with the factory motocross Ural sidecar rig.

Sidecars and dualsporting are a great mix. Until last year I have been the only sidecar signing up for Tawm's events. In July of 04 IMWA brought Urals to the Blackdog and several other folks showed up as well. Out of a field of 200 bikes I believe we had 10 sidecar entries. Everybody had a blast!

Now there is an angle I would have never thought of. Enduro plus side car! How tough is it to get around tight places and uneven surfaces?

Tight places can be tough, rough places are easy! Sidecars are pretty much restricted to the B & C course; the more difficult AA & A courses are mostly single track and too narrow for the sidecars to negotiate.

The nice thing about having the training wheel is you can blast through gravel and mud and execute lurid powerslides without falling over!

The other cool thing is you can have the passenger navigate. This frees you up to pick the best line and rip. I set up the roll chart and a bicycle speedometer with agood tripmeter/reset function in the sidecar for my monkey

    pix 2005 Black Dog Dualsport

The Black Dog was last weekend. There were 125 bikes and 5 sidecars. All the sidecars were Urals, sponsored by the importer, IMWA. Urals took first and second overal for the two day event and second for Saturday only riders. I rode a 05 Ural tourist; had two passengers on Saturday and we were the first to do the Black Dog "3 up"! Too much fun!

I have some pix up at adventuresidecar.com CLICK HERE

Garret Kloudohl and Jason Rae took first and second aboard the factory prototype two wheel drive Ural Crossbike- this is the only example in the country and this is the first competition IMWA has entered it in. Dave Butt took this photo of it in action
