Re: Beautiful. A Pashnit Tour of Coastal California.

This Pashnit Tour was a series of firsts. First time that 50% of the bikes were cruisers/Harleys. 50% of the riders were Pashnit Alumni- this being their second tour or more. Several, this was their 3rd or 4th. For Kevin, it was his 5th. Can't seem to get away from that guy. And the weather- while last year we hit a wee spot of rain (after a month straight of rain ), this was sheer luck of the draw. Just beautiful spring weather. And for me, it was the first time in a long time I wasn't on the Hayabusa leading this ride.

Welcome to your Pashnit Motorcycle Tour. Vicarious or otherwise, let's ride.

Ron's Harley - recently sold his ST1300 to get this:

    Safety brief...

Ready to ride. This Aprilia Tuono is Jim's new ride, who rode with us last fall on his ZX-11D, my old motorcycle.

Re: Beautiful. A Pashnit Tour of Coastal California.

With 50% of riders having ridden on previous Pashnit Tour - was a good time to catch up and see what everyone's been up to for the last year.

    John

    Rick

    David

For this ride, I'd be road testing the new BMW K1200S- a georgeous motorcycle that I'd have to describe as a simply brilliant piece of engineering. More on that in a bit. Had 30 miles on it when I picked it up.

David's drool-inducing Ducati 749s. David had ridden with us last year on the NorCal Tour.

Rick trying out the K1200S for size. Rick oddly enough had gone on this same exact tour one year prior- those pics are here <--clicky. This would be his third tour.

Andre & Rick, Andre had ridden with his wife on the Sierra Nevada Ride last year.

Mike (at left) had also been on that same Sierra Nevada Ride last fall- familiar faces!

    David, Bob & John.

Bob's BMW GS- we'd had the pleasure of riding with Bob last year too on the NorCal Tour.

The 'Beautiful' comes from a comment one of the riders said as we set off and starting riding. Clear skies, perfect temps, it was amazing. Along Highway 1 Big Sur, we spied this. Picture perfect stuff! This is the Rocky Point Bridge- note that road at middle right- that's the north end of the Old Coast Rd- dirt/gravel and goaty, but you can ride it.

Note that house Probably not a bad view up there.

Ron & Jim - another entry for my Back Series.

    Jim

Jim after many years of owning a Kawasaki ZX-11D, instead showed up with this drool-inducing Aprilia Tuono

Bill & Jing- who were riding on the Suzuki Boulevard M109- how we marveled at that huge rear tire! Bill is a professional photographer and works in Alternative Medicine.

Bill's Suzuki Boulevard M109 with Ron's new Harley

...next to Bob's BMW GS & John's CBR

Might have seen this bike in a photo or two of mine.

Always fun to photograph the BMW Rockster- a shot for you dye-in-wool beemerphiles.

And the BMW K1200S & Rick's classic Honda VFR

    Sculpted. To say the least.

I mentioned the view. This was from our table.

And the food- delicious! I'm big on ham sandwiches, and this one was fantastic!

Re: Beautiful. A Pashnit Tour of Coastal California.

James came on a wonderful Kawasaki Drifter- all decked out! His daughter had bought him this tour as a gift.

First thing James did when he met me is ask me what 'pashnit' meant.

    The answer is here btw.

    Good to see Andre again!

I shot this of Andre & his wife the last time we rode together. One of my favorites, shot in Yosemite National Park, and really captures the moment that many a motorcyclist know well.

Off to lunch at the Nepenthe Restaurant. Expensive food, but killer view.

Shot a lot of photography of this bike over the weekend, probably a 100 plus shots for a future Road Test Article on the bike. Will also have to whip up a long-winded pashnit webpage about the bike too like I did with the new Buell Ulysses XB12X a short while back.

    Yours Truly

    Always draws a crowd!

View of the California Big Sur Coastline from the Nepenthe Restaurant

Someone will have to tell me what type of tree this is.

One thing that struck me as we were walking around is this fella sitting here- just reading a book. Not a bad place to do such thing. What you can't see is there's nothing underneath him. This deck juts out and it must be 20 feet straight down. Just sitting out here a part of it all.
