    Single Use Tires?

Yeah, I know, I know. Modern tubeless motorcycle tires offer superior performance and much greater rider safety. But what a P I T A when after only four hundred miles, you puncture one of 'em.

The sad, sad details are at: http://thechurchoftheopenroad.blogsp...use-tires.html

    2cents Single Use Tires?

    Bummer...........

I got a puncture on my PRII (rear) similar to yours and the holes were closer together - 1" (a fencing staple would be my guess) with 3300 miles on the tire.

I know this cure is not for everyone, but I had my trusted (auto) tire shop "hot patch" it from the inside and I got another 5K out of that tire before it went to the dumpster.

    YMMV

    Fix it!!!!!

Find a shop that has "Tech International" tire repair kits and have the hole/holes plugged.

It's a patch/plug combo (one piece unit, looks like a skinny mushroom) that seals on the inside of the tire as well as where the plug portion goes through the tire..... The patch portion while sealing around the hole on the inside ensures the plug can't come out....

    YMMV RON

I have plugged a Pilot Road, and that temporary fix was good for more than 3000 miles. I used the Dyna Plug, which I always have on the bike and am pretty happy with it. Used it on our car as well without problems.

Punctures aren't the fault of the tire. Stuff happens.

    Re: Single Use Tires?

I've been carrying a stop-n-go kit on my bike, but it's a temp use kit, and the dyna plug sounds like a better solution as so far all my punctures have been very small diameter holes (wire brads and the like) which it sounds like are ideal for this. Frankly the stop-n-go would be good to keep around for anything to big for a single one of these as a temp repair.

    Re: Single Use Tires?

While "fix it" sounds like a way to go. Been to a couple of local dealers who strongly advise against repair kits - although they sell 'em. (Oddly enough, they also sell new tires. Go figure.) At this point, I think I'll replace the original new tire with a new new tire - save and repair the old new tire and use it as a spare. With my luck, I'll be installing it in four to six weeks.

And Steve: You're right. Punctures aren't the fault of the tire. The point of the post's title was that with the technological improvements brought about by modern tubeless rubber comes important considerations when the repair or replace question arises.

    Re: Single Use Tires?

I never exceed 30 MPH and never lean the bike more than 6.5 degrees. I stop every few minutes and feel my tires to make sure they aren't overheating therefore I have no problem riding on a plugged tire. Of course I have never had to plug one due to the fact that at this speed I can avoid nails, fence tacks and cardboard boxes with staples. Let me tell you it's a obstacle course out there!
