Advice on alternative to Hwy 49, mid state

My Spring CA loop is happening earlier than usual this year.

Since snow is forecast for upcoming mid-week over the Sierra summits, I'm changing my southbound route to the Western side of the mountains. Having ridden the entire length of Hwy 49 numerous times, looking for an alternative for part of it.

    https://www.google.com/maps/dir/San+...!1m0!3e0?hl=en

Moto-Roads (here on Pashnit) has a good blurb on Pool Station Road (south of San Andreas to jct CA-4).

Does anyone have an opinion on:
O'Byrnes Ferry Rd, (to jct of CA-108/120),
La Grange Rd (thru La Grange to Snelling),
Snelling Rd, south to G St into Merced. --?

Looks straightforward on Google Maps, but not being state numbered roads, don't know their condition.

    Anyone? Thanks in advance.

By all means, you have the right idea! Give Pool Station Rd. a ride! At the south end take HWY 4 west for a few miles then south again on HWY 132 to La Grange. The rest you have already marked / noted, current conditions are unknown but I personally enjoyed the Snelling cut off to Hornitos, great country road with little traffic and big grins. Kate's Valley is good for gas and a cold drink, then on to Merced and points south. I rode it last year about this time, and made a note to ride it again one of these days. You can break back east and hook up with 49 again, or west to 99 and..... Enjoy!

Kathy's Valley, I'm sure I said Kathy's Valley,,, or maybe Cathy's... hey, it was last year and there have been a couple of miles on the clock since then. Besides, I've only been through there that one time. Only thing for sure is you can't miss it,,, cut me some slack!

Thanks to you who responded. I was unsure of pavement condition or any Springtime washouts (there has been so much damage around the state). I'm on my FJR1300.

Pool Station Rd started out smooth for a few miles, then became "patchy" but never got goaty.
That short stretch on CA-4 was smooth and perfect!
    O'Byrnes Ferry was fine.
LaGrange was a wonderful, smooth and swoopy ride. Loved it!
Snelling Rd into Merced was also in good shape.

I just might retrace this in the other direction on my way home.

On that topic (riding in the opposite direction)-- Yesterday I rode the Pines to Palms Hwy (CA-74) in my "normal" direction, up from Palm Desert over to Hemet, then 79 to Beaumont, then back to Palm Springs. TODAY I rode the same loop in the opposite direction (CCW), and it was a MUCH BETTER ride! The climb up 74 Eastbound out of Hemet is WAY fun! Moreso than the climb up 74 from Palm Desert (the Mad Mad World loops).

I head out tomorrow for Visalia, staging for Sequoia and CA198 (CCW-- Northbound-- again, the best "climbing" direction)- gotta go visit Moro Rock!
