Ride to Total Eclipse of the Sun

Anyone planning something along that line? The path of totality passes through Oregon the morning of August 21st and there are many events happening along the TSE path.

Here's a website to fill you in on the details, times and places you can see the total eclipse...The main show, total eclipse-wise, only lasts about 2 minutes...but it might be the only chance to cross this one off the bucket-list...

Thanks for the links. I have missed out on every reservation, lottery and other opportunity to grab a campsite. I will be there, in some form or fashion.

Yeah, we are way behind the curve too...probably end up on the side of the road in a sleeping bag somewhere with a view of the sky...

I thought about taking the day off work, but it's only a few minutes of the day to experience the eclipse, so I'm going to work. I route myself and I think there will be some work at OSU in Corvallis.

Corvallis will experience the TSE starting at about 10:17, lasts 2 minutes +/-...remember not to look directly at the sun until it's fully eclipsed...
I'll be over near John Day somewhere, looking for a nice place to hang out and watch it get dark in the middle of the day!

Only 72 days til the Total Solar Eclipse!...

My plans are in place, scored a spot in a private campground near Mt Vernon OR. The place has a bathouse and the hosts serve a country breakfast for the days we're there. It's in the Path of Totality, and only a few miles from the exact centerline...

The more I read of other peoples first TSE experience, the more I am committed to being at the middle of the path and seeing it to the max...

During the partial phase be sure to have proper eye protection, solar viewing glasses, with no scratches or nicks that would allow damaging light to hit your eyes...and if you are in the Path only look with the naked Mark-1 eyeball during the total phase...

That sounds like a good plan. The chances of a cloudy day over there is slim. I'm trying to figure out what private campground near Mt Vernon OR you are talking about. Clyde Holiday State Park is near there and Fish House Inn in Dayville.

If you want some very good food, go to Dayville Cafe.

This one is private in the sense that it is usually reserved for friends and family. For the eclipse they have, at the urging of friends and family, opened it to reservations from others. While they are full, I found them on the Prairie City website by reference...perhaps other cities might have similar things happening. I know John Day has a large area set aside for tent and RV camping...so does Madras.

Don't go to that area just for the eclipse. There is some of the best riding roads in the country surrounding John Day.

I thought about it until I realized the rest of the nation was planning on doing the same thing. I'll pass.
