I do think it's the Sierra Buttes as I look at it longer. They're close to Gray Eagle, so it stands to reason.

I check in every so often to see if there's anything new. Sure would be nice if it was going strong like it was about ten years ago. After that software snafu lots of folks wandered off but most of them can be found on Facebook.

A ride report on Facebook isn't the same. I'll post a couple pictures on there because it's easy from the phone, here it was sharing with like-mined people.

[QUOTE=Maximo;419716]Ron, that almost looks like the Sierra Buttes. Where is this?[/QUOTE

one of the overlooks on Gold Lakes Drive, on the uphill, just north of Hwy 49 Yuba Pass. Fun road. Drops you down into Graeagle for lunch at the golf course

    Re: Pashnit Reborn??

I haven't ridden in quite a while. This summer has been incredibly busy with music commitments, and the arthritis in my hip has gotten markedly worse. I have tried finding some of my old ride reports, but the good ones were in the time that was lost.

Facebook does take up a lot of the "community" slack, but like Ken said, not the "like minded" slack.

    Re: Pashnit Reborn??

Yeah, I recognize them now. I have a couple of pix from that same vantage point. Since it's not that far from home, I incorporate 49 on a variety of loops.

Funny story: Last year I was going up on 49 past Downieville on my K bike. I was going about 70 MPH when I spotted an SUV ahead of me trying to outpace me. Obviously a local, he knew the road well and was doing a good job speeding up. I took it as a challenge and caught up with him and at the next safe spot I passed him. Safe is relative, it was safe for me bc I know the road and I know my bike, so it turned out to be a curve and double yellow. I was going very very fast when I passed him. As soon as I got back in the lane I saw the lights. In my thrill induced stupidity, I didn't realize it was an LEO.

I pulled over, shut off the bike, took the keys out and held them out as he walked toward the bike. I greeted him by saying "here you go, officer, I figure you're going to impound the bike and take me in. Please just let me get out of my gear before you handcuff me." I got a stern lecture, followed by effusive praise for my form, and then given a 5 minute head start.

Some days things go your way.

    Re: Pashnit Reborn??

After the last CA / OR gathering, I was headed to Upper NW Washington and needed to be there in a day and a half. I was headed up 395 north of Reno. I would pass a car and the car behind me would pass as soon as there was another opening. I had already passed him and knew he wasn't a cop. We passed many more. Each time I would tuck in behind the next car and survey the oncoming traffic. The car behind me didn't see the cop coming and passed the car behind me. Too late. Cop coming the other way had to slow down to let the car do his pass.
Blue light came on and that was the last I saw of both of them.

I slowed down a bit and made it all the way to Goldendale, WA.

I even found some nice roads.
