What a great weekend!!
Cruiser and I had intended to leave earlier in the day on Friday, but my battery cable on my bike had a different idea. This caused a nice delay as Cruiser had to backtrack 30 miles to fix it for me.
Once on the road it was a fun, tho rainy, ride. Since we had been riding for hours in the rain we decided to stay at the Pioneer Lodge instead of pitching the tent in the dark the first night. Ahhhhh the comfort of a nice warm bath, fresh hot coffee and a warm comfy bed. Ohhhhh baby!
In the morning we learned that it might again rain and also that the lodge was nearly booked due to a wedding party. With that in mind, we decided to just keep the room in case it was too muddy or wet at Sopiago.
I then noticed Ducky's famous paintjob on her truck and realized that Miss Duck was staying there too! Then we meet some more nice folks at the lodge and talked to them about the days ride etc...... and off we went to Sopiago.
Thanks for the great Pashnit signs! Boy were they helpful, tho Syd and I would have wished we had them all the way from Jackson.... oh that's later.. nevermind!
The road up to the turnoff from 88 is breathtaking.... so many gorgeous trees, quaint rustic homes and businesses dotting the road here and there. I Loved it! Then the turn off and the "poopy turn" (according to Syd) onto the road to Sopiago. Winding down the mountain thru the trees is like descending into a fairly tale. I half expected to see some Hobbits or something along the way! Finally we make it to the Sopiago Springs ranch and it is so beautiful! WOW! 150 acres of mountaineous beauty and TIM wants to share it with us bikers.... I think I truly am in heaven now!
Tim your place is really outstanding. As soon as we drove up, I was kicking myself for staying at the lodge! The grounds are perfect for camping with running water, restrooms, showers and a fabulous area for pitching tents.
I spend the day catching up on my "Hugtime" with all my friends, old and new! It's always so much fun matching people with their online names! Miss Ducky was easy to spot with her Green and Gold everything...even her glasses!! Nice to finally get a HUG in there Duckster!
Oh yeah.... back to the directions thing...... I inadvertantly left my boas at home.... yeah me arriving sans the Boas and it was not a happy scene! So Miss Syd Fishus.... says "Let's go into town and find ya a boa"..... you know me, always up for an adventure. First stop out is at the lodge as it turns out Fishy is staying there too with the Duckster and she needs to drop off her gear. After Fishy returns from the office she tells me "well it looks like we won't have to go to any porno shops to get boas... they have them on main street"! OH MY!!! When we left, I was thinking we were heading to a party supply house.... not a house of party! Thank you little yellow book pages!
So off to Jackson we drive and we are having a twisty time flying around the corners and playing lean time! Fishy you are a fun rider girlfirend! Thankfully the local cops were too busy directing traffic to bother with us.
In town we find that main street is closed off because of a classic car show.... woo hoo! Fishy and I rangle us a parking space near the event and walk into town..... two chicas with leathers and helmet hair... oh we are the sight! We found the shop that just might carry a boa or two..... the owner tells us she just happens to have a BOX of boas for us to look thru! Fishy and I decided to buy a bounty of Boas to share back at camp. Of course after getting our boas (and a nifty pair of glasses for moi), we meandered down main street looking at the cars. Up and down the street women were asking us "Where's you get the boas"?? " How cute!! where are they from"!!
I think we should have asked for a commission on boa sales from the shop!
Gotta say the town of Jackson is absolutley adorable! I love the building, shops and people... very nice place and I am looking forward to returning!
Leaving Jackson by the main street was a bit...um... different. Seems Fishy and the traffic patrol people had a disagreement about turning left on the light..... Fishy said we could, they said we couldn't. So I figured let's just turn right and make a U and back track. Okay... we do this and Miss Fishous was a bit out of joint.... hee hee. Anyway we ended up going out of town the wrong way!
As we went along I kept seeing things I didn't quite remember the first time around.... but then, I WAS concentrating on my riding.. maybe I just missed that stuff. Then come the road construction....we are stopped for like 15 mins or so.... still this doesn't look familiar, but Syd assures me that they can suddenly start work on a portion of road that we just came thru and was clear. So onward we go both thinking we were okay. Finally we both get the feeling that we are NOT going the right direction... it's getting HOT instead of Coooler! At this point there is a ton of traffic and just no safe place to turn around.... so we get all the way to hwy 49 and make U there.... come back and have to wait thru the road construction time. I was hoping Fishy had a "waive thru" or something, but darn it all, we had to wait too!
Upon arrival back to Sopiago, we found that we missed the BBQ and the group picture. BUT we had a marvelous time passing out Boas!!!
There should be lots of "boa shots" milling about in digital pics!
Of course riding with BOAS is even more fun than just walking around with them! Sklywag's wife Miss Trudy snagged a red feather boa. She says she will be wearing it with a cute red leather jacket, chaps and spike heels in Las Vegas soon! I can't wait to see the pics!! We told her to make it her avatar when she signs on!
Mrs Cyms was enchanting with her GOLD boa too! She has to wait till her lil one is born before she can ride again... then I wanna see a pic or two!
We spent the rest of the day chatting and hanging around the firepit as the guys did the macho "big fire" thing . LOVED it by the way!
Sunday we had a giant breakfast table at the restaurant by our Lodge (Cripple creek i think) . WONDERFUL food, super nice waitresses and it's owned by a couple who are also riders. So stop in next time... you will be glad you did!
Cruiser and I departed directly from the Lodge instead of heading back up to Sopiago as intended. The rain was really starting to come down and as it turned out, we had rain all the way home. I neglected to bring my rain gear (bad bad and it won't happen again) but I did have a rain jacket to go over my leathers. This works great in an unexpected shower or two.... but not a steady rain on the road. We stopped for gas and coffee and I wrung the water out of my leather gloves! My jacket was dry, just my gloves, shoes and leather pants from the knees down. Fortunately it was not a cold rain and tho a bit uncomforatble, I was fine and not too cold.
It rained pretty hard several times on the freeway... I rode with my flashers on so I could be seen as the visibility was not great at times. That seemed to help a great deal.... nobody crowded near me at all. I did turn them off when the visibility was better... just had them on during the hard downpours. I was feeling a bit tired and worn down til a buncha bikes came past us. I saw one guy in shorts... his legs were BRIGHT RED! I suddenly felt really warm and made it home without a shiver after that!
Well that was my version of our adventure! So many nice Pashnits all in one place.... it was GREAT!!!!!!!!
