Recently got asked by VIA Magazine (think AAA) to do a photo shoot of the Bourne Mansion in Grass Valley, CA. And while I didn't quite make the cut (they used a tiny 2" uncredited pic of the house), it still produced some really great photos. The mansion was built on the grounds of the Empire Mine and the entire grounds are kept immaculate. Recently, the state has pumped big money into expanding the park - digging a new horizontal tunnel into the mine for tourists. I believe it's set to open to the public real soon. Spring 2005 maybe?
This is a really fun Motorcycle Destination, and readily assesible off Highway 49. Shaded parking, tons of old mine stuff to check out, and an excellent museum. To get there, exit Interstate 80 at Hwy 49 and ride north from Auburn to Grass Valley. Exit at Hwy 20 and ride east just a short distance. There are signs of course. Or from the Central Valley from Marysville, ride east on Hwy 20 through the foothills to Grass Valley.

Here's the photos as a result of the trip there. Trying to capture the mansion from all angles (some of them are a little similar ).
