wow....nice pixs Steve. Can't wait for more. I love France. Food's great, wine's great, view's excellent, except people refused to speak English and I was confused to get around. Stupid me, I went there by myself, not even a clue where I am gonna stay for the day. hahhha......

    Kurt ,

It was a family holiday , so I drove the Magic Bus [ Kia Sedona ] with all the family down to Frejus , and we covered 3000 miles over the two weeks [ I did all the driving ] .

Having seen the standard of driving around the resort areas , I'm not sure I'd enjoy riding the bike there - they are so impatient .
Most of the bikes I saw were either V Strom or Africa Twin/Transalp , and a lot of Harleys /Beemers.

The coast road from Frejus round to Cannes is a great road , twisting and turning as it hugs the rugged coastline ....you need to keep your eyes peeled for tourists wandering over to the wrong side of the road as they gawp at the scenery though .

    Welcome back Steve,

I hope you enjoyed your family holiday!! Your pix, like usual have extreme clarity. They are truly beautiful. Even the light post, which could be construed as dull is a fascinating shot!

Good to see the Vstrom has also found Europe. It seems to me to be a very enduring bike for all terrains and easy to ride. Now if only it were more attractive!!! On the beemer site, they have an ongoing post about how ugly the strom is!! I am still waiting to sell Lola, then with money in hand i will seek a new bike.

    cheers,
    donna

    Re: South of France

Steve, the riding is pretty aggressive, but not unreasonable. To me it looked as though it would be miserable to be there in a car - one can just slice through it much more easily on a bike. There's a different notion there of lane usage too. It's not uncommon to find people in your lane as you corner. This seemed to be partly a result of the narrowness of the roads, and well as tourists gaping. You can accommodate yourself to it once it's expected.

I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of Harleys I saw in the high passes. Lots in the valleys, but not in the high places. Same was true of cruisers in general. The most commonly sighted bike had to be BMW GS's. Probably Honda Varaderos and V-Stroms came next. Fewer sportbikes than I expected. The strangest thing I saw was a group ride of middle-aged Germans (judging by the license plates) riding Honda CT70's up the Col du Var. Pinned at about 35mph. Bizarre.

    Great photos!

    Regards,

    Kurt

    Donna,
Thanks for the comments about the photos ............. SWMBO thought I was mad taking a snap of a light !!
I had a real good look at a V Strom while we were there .......... it was a 1000 cc version in blue ................. I thought it looked a purposeful bike , rather than ugly ................. those that own them rave about them .

I found myself wondering what they are like to ride ..........
