Jim - I've thought about it, but it would be a long day. My longest is a series of 600 mile days in the saddle which is basically leaving at 4am, riding all day photographing roads, and wrapping up at dusk when the light fades. Mine is really set up for long-distance travel, but the seat gets pretty hard after 400 miles or 12 hours. Whichever comes first.

I think if I were to ever do something like this, I'd make a beeline for Nevada's Hwy 50 and make tracks.

Almost, but not an official attempt.

It really wasn't much of a problem (except running out of tire)

    Here's the article I wrote:
    http://www.pashnit.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1604

932 miles, woke up in St George, Utah, toured Zion, then hit the road for home.
If it wasn't for the tire we would have made great time.

We were planning on doing an official attempt this summer but it's just been too busy for me.

    Maybe soon though.

    My new dream is to...
    • kiss the wife and kid goodbye in our driveway
    • Ride up to Prudhoe Bay on a R1200GSA
    • Skinny Dip in the Artic Ocean
    • Ride back home
    • Kiss the wife and kid as we pass on by
    • ride down to the tip of Baja
    • jump in the ocean (with a suit, damn touristas!)
    • ride back home to the waiting arms of the wife and kid
    • oh yeah, and do it in less than 20 days!

There is no doubt it would be a tough trip. It would be easy on the harley. I once rode from Woodstock Ny home About 800 miles 2 up on my road king My behind was whipped.
My riding partner Charlie is the only guy I know that loves to ride as much as myself. He is always ready to ride. So when I ask him about doing a Iron butt he is all for it. I will let you'll know what happens. If I decide to go on the harley you guys don't hold it against me.

If we do, we'll wait until the pipes cool off.

There have been a number of 1000s done on much less capable bikes. Bikes that most would not consider going 200 miles on. There is a touch to a full on punch of masochism involved in these runs...I'll wager that the Busa has been used.

Y'all do the runs, I'll be happy to just read about your mad trip (where is that monkey butt avatar?).

    I disagree.
If you are looking at completing the minimum 1,000 miles it should be no prob.

Sport tour windscreen, handlebar risers if needed - and maybe a new seat.
I happen to like my stock seat over the gel version.

I don't even have risers, just a slightly taller screen, and a throttlemeister.
I'm not a mileage animal, no tunes, just a normal rider.

Look at the list of people who completed any of the rides:
    http://www.ironbutt.com/rides/rideslogin.cfm

    Here's just a couple...
John Noble Hillsboro, OR 07/31/04 Suzuki Hayabusa 1,430
Henry D. Towne Lone Tree, CO 06/23/04 Suzuki Hayabusa 1,468
Michael Thibodeau Orange, CA 09/20/03 Suzuki Hayabusa 1,514

I did a CTRL - F and found many Hayabusa's and many more sportbikes.
Including a guy from MN who did it on a Piaggio X9! - That's still a scooter, eh?

Not so. Just hard mount that sucker and away we go. Might get some interesting video while we're at it.

Dale, I can recharge my digital camera with the motorcycle. The camera can be powered off the bike with a 12volt power wire got off the Canon website.
