Last Of The Summer Beer
I made the most of some decent weather & took a ride to The Lake District last weekend & camped out overnight.
Met up at Haydock Island, introductions were made & the 1st coffee of the day drunk. ![]() Our 1st stop-off was at Fourstones. ![]() Well, it would be rude not to climb it. ![]() ![]() Next stop was Devil's Bridge for a brew & a bite. Legend has it that 3 of the fourstones were used to build the bridge. ![]() Wainwath Falls, an unexpected stop-off. ![]() ![]() Then it was off to the 1st pass of the day. Wrynose. ![]() Superb road & fantastic scenery. ![]() ![]()

Re: Last Of The Summer Beer
Then onto Hardknot Pass, a steep pass that put our rear brakes to the test.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The last stop-off before a bimble down a single track doing some greenlaning & a ride around some stunning lakes. ![]() ![]() Then onto Thornthwaite campsite. The owner was very biker friendly and you can have a camp fire & it's 10 mins from pub! Ah, the pub. Some of our eyes were bigger than our bellies when it came to the food & I must admit I got incredibly drunk. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() More beers by the fireside. ![]() ![]() In the morning I could have easily stayed in bed for another 3 or 4 hours but I made an effort & packed up. Riding out of the camp I decided it was too much so I stopped off down the road for breakfast & cleared my head for an hour. The ride home was an uneventful blast down the motorway but the previous day was a cracker.

Re: Last Of The Summer Beer
Saturday couldn't have been better, dry all day, a perfect temperature & a superb route with some decent riders. That's one day I'll remember for a while. Saturday night/early Sunday morning though is still a bit hazy. :augie

Re: Last Of The Summer Beer
Wow, great shots! Excuse my ignorance of your geography, but are the shots of the peet bogs and mountains from England?
Simply brilliant, I would sooo love to do some riding in the UK, Scotland, and Ireland.. Or for that matter...well, let's add Europe in there too....hell, let's add most of the world! Soooo many roads, so little time. You know, if work would just get out of the way I would have so much more time to ride! Of course, I would need some cash I guess. Cheers, and thanks for the photos, Kharon |

That does it! I'm spending all my rent money on Lottery tickets and going on a road trip with the $1 I'm gonna win.
Hmmm....Logistics again dang it! It appears the rooster didn't go on the BBQ so did it end up as an adopted " Riding Rooster"? VERY cool pics! Love the rock steps. Are they ancient or something newer? |
