And then came Arizona

As most of you know we have moved again, we are now in Phoenix, AZ. We love it here, year round riding. Yes they say it's hot but you just learn to deal with it.

So, this past weekend we took another 3 day weekend ride to Eastern AZ, Route 191, better knows as the Cornoado Trail AKA The Devils Highway Rt 666. This road compares to Hwy 1 from the CA Coast to Hwy 101 & to Hwy 36.

From Clifton, AZ to Alpine, AZ is 117 miles, (over 400 turns according to some that say they counted) it climbs from 3000' to 9100' and has scenery that compares to the best in CA!

We were impressed!

It starts out in Clifton with a very large copper mine.


Caution is required on the road through there as it is noice & twisty but lots of rocks, gravel, etc on the road from the mine trucks.
This is one shot, I have at least 10 more & still can't show the size of this operation.



We stopped for a break after a long uphill series of twisties, probably some 15 miles. I was taking some shots and then Matt came around the corner, saw me taking pictures and came back for a better picture

Of course a ride wouldn't be the same without meeting a group & getting to tell them how "Pashnit" we are about riding. Gave away all my Pashnit Stickers & took a couple pictures of the group. Matt was part of this group.

I read a post earlier tonight bashing the cruisers that go to Street Vibrations (not that I really disagree in general) but there are some cruiser riders that really can ride.
This shot was taken at about 80mph, it's a Honda 750 Shadow & guess what guys, it's a girl! I stopped taking pic's as we hit 85 and she keep going to 93. That lady can ride her "Cruiser"


And of course the final pic has to be my HD, yes right behind her taking pictures at 93 in the turns with the trailer. Come ride with me, we will show you a totally different of Cruiser Riders.

Very nice. I will be in Scottsdale next month to help a friend with a project. I have promised a young girl that left here to go to collage over there that I would take her on a ride while I was there. I will be in touch.

No question that Arizona has some fine riding. As for some people saying it gets hot. I left my motorcycle helmet in my truck in Phoenix in 1976 and the faceshield melted. As I recall it was about 116 degrees that day. Some might say that's hot!

Hi Bill, and welcome to AZ. Whereabouts in the PHX area are you? Where else have you ridden? Tortilla Flat? Jerome? Yarnell Hill? White Spars? Mt Lemmon? Mt Graham?

Good places for breakfast are the Buckboard in Superior, Payson Airport (eat and watch the planes), Rimside Grill in Pine. Great strawberry pie can be found at the Strawberry Lodge in Strawberry, just up the road from Pine. Another good spot is the Rock Canyon Cafe straight up I-17.

As noted, we have LOTS of great riding opportunities here.
