June Lake and Mammoth Lakes
Any advice on sites and eats in the area in July? I'm coming south on 395 and returning 120.

You can't go wrong with the June Lake Loop. Spectacular area. A fun ride is continuing east on Hwy.120 until it ends on Hwy 6. Go South on 6 to Bishop and stop for lunch and bakery goodies at Schat's Bakery, a place so popular that tour buses stop there.

Re: June Lake and Mammoth Lakes
Mammoth has Yuppified and up-scaled in the last 10 years. But for casual dining I recommend:
Angel's on 206/Main Street: "Mammoth's only Wood Fired BBQ. With a very diverse menu, ranging from entree sized salads, burgers, sandwiches, Ribs, Prime Rib, Tri Tip and Beef Brisket, a complete kids menu, full bar." For pizza - Giovanni's on Old Mammoth: "Giovanni's uses only fresh homemade dough and sauce for our award winning pizzas. Each one is hand tossed to order then topped with the best ingredients and 100 percent real mozzarella cheese. We also offer a delicious selection of salads, entrees, and pasta dishes. Dine in, take out, and delivery." For breakfast, I always go to Good Life Cafe on Old Mammoth Rd. If you do go down to Bishop, get off 395 at Tom's Place and take Lower Rock Creek/Birchim Lane/N. Round Valley down into Bishop. Even though you're never more than a 1/2 mile away from 395, this route magnifies the awesomeness of the scenery ten-fold. (and only adds about 15 minutes to the ride). Mammoth can meet your restaurant needs, this ride is a reason to go to Bishop. Carson Peak Restaurant in June is very good, but pricey. Convict Lake just south of Mammoth is beautiful, but I've never eaten at the rustic restaurant there. |

Another good stop in Mammath Is Schatt's Bakery. Usually pretty crowded but the pastries are delish!!!
Convict Lake is gorgeous & if you are into camping has great camping & fishing. Check out some of the Lava Beds also along the way. Pretty interesting. Not sure of the roads tho. You may hit some hard pack gravel. Lot's of really cool geological features in the area so pick up some brochures to give ya some guidelines. |

If you go south to Lone Pine the Seasons restaurant is one of the best. You will love any of their steaks.

Re: June Lake and Mammoth Lakes
Thank you all for your info on the area. I was planning of staying two nights, but now I'm thinking three or more to cover all your suggestions.
