Santa Barbara roads

Ok I am looking at Google Earth trying to figure out tomorrows ride and I see this road that Parallels Hwy 101 called Foothill Rd. or 192. North of Santa Barbara and east of Mission Canyon, Mountain Drive intersects it and heads up into the hills/mountains and changes it's name to Gibraltar Rd. then to West Camino Cielo and runs the ridge all the way to Hwy 154 and Stagecoach Rd. It looks paved to the satilite image. I don't see it listed in the CA Moto Roads here TIM and I thought you'd been everywhere. I'm looking to see if any one knows this road and a little info on it. Looks like it might be a good one. Please hurry, it's almost my bedtime.

Re: Santa Barbara roads

It's a good route, but it was closed after the fire. It should be open by now, but I'm not certain.
Camino Cielo is paved, but has lots of patched pot holes. Great views!!!!!

Hi John,
I might add that Camino Cielo has had some recent repair work. It is in better condition than what you may read in older posts. The big payoff is the spectacular views you will enjoy in clear weather like this.
Take a camera.
I always take 192 when the 101 is congested.

Re: Santa Barbara roads

Thanks David, we are heading out now going to take the 126 to the 150 to the 192 and see how far we can make it before we have to turn around and get home cause we told our girls we would take them out to dinner. Not sure if we will make it to Camino Cielo today but going to try.
Johnny we are hoping the wind is not as strong up there, but we really want to ride today.

Ooooo....

That's good to hear. I'm taking most of next week off, and needed a target location...

Re: Santa Barbara roads

Made it back safe and sound. It was a beautiful day for a ride. We missed the turn off for Camino Cielo Rd. and ended up taking 192 all the way to the 154. Headed over to Cold Spring Tavern to grab lunch and it was way too crowded for my liking. Hard to find a place to park so we had lunch at the Boat House (formerly the Brown Pelican) at Arroyo Burro Beach. I liked it better when it was the Brown Pelican. They used to have a killer curried shrimp plate. The whole beach and all was packed. Just another awesome So Cal winter day. Here's a few pics. Dee and I at Lake Casitas and a view of Santa Cruz Island from Hwy 150.

That last pic is pretty much the same view I had yesterday coming down 154. Awesome!

I rode out 150 to 192 to 154. Stopped at the tavern for a quick break then through Solvang, and up 1 to Guadalupe. Ended up getting a quick lunch in Nipomo then down 101 to 166, Tempusquet, Foxen, Zaca Station to 154, and back home since it was getting late.

Saw lots of little roads off of 1 between 101, and Vandenburg/Lompoc that will require further investigation this spring. I need to get an earlier start next time. So many roads so little time.

Suweeet! I hope to be in CA in late June, early July timeframe. Wife wants to fly, I want to drive and trailer the bike. I don't want to be in CA for 2 weeks without my bike. Riding is half the reason to be there. Would be interested in riding from Tehachapi, through Ojai, across/up that route there! Super sweet!
