I got myself a riding coach... WERA certified expert.
Maybe I'll learn a few things that "time in traffic" won't teach by osmosis.
i'll be honest. in the half million miles or so ive ridden, i can only remember having to do the hard brake, lighten brake, push to the side, push to the other side, then stop routine once. atleast at the limit of how fast i can possibly do it.

it was a basic group ride. i was blocking traffic for the group to pull out, and then i go back up ahead for when i have to do it again near the end of our trip.
so after the last bike leaves, i go and 2 lanes over from the pack, im going ahead. i'll admit, im moving at a good clip.
it goes from 6 lanes to 2 ahead, and i move over to the far side of the lane near the pack. admittidly, i should have slowed more.
one guy in the pack, i didnt know him well, very quickly came over toward the left shoulder (where i am) and hit the brakes to stop infront of me.
hard brake. ease off the brake as i push to the left, push to the right to straighten, hard back on the brake. stopped right past the (now visibly shaken) guy. i can still remember the squeeking of the tire when turning and the pushing feelling of the front end traction.. i was at the limit of what my bike could do, and it was a Ducati 749 with warm, sticky tires. thats one of only 2 close calls ive every had on the street with another bike..

so.. i may not have used it often, but im damn glad i knew exactly how fast i could move the bike over a few feet. when i say this happened fast, i mean it was HS-OMG-WTF fast.

I don't know how frequently the board locals have to do it...
but have you ever encountered the variety of driving styles found in Los Angeles?

Only place I've seen worse driving was when I lived in Foat Wuth.

Hey, I saw a rock slide on the Dragon. You guys got some funny looking rocks over there... all flat 'n all...

In all fairness I haven't been on two wheels anywhere in Texas, but I have caged it all over the state many times over the years.
Have a good one at the gap
