Little Help from SF people

My Dad took a lot of 8mm videos that I have just digitized. This one is from 1948, and shows Truman in a motorcade with … wait for it … a motorcycle escort.

Okay, I know this is a stretch, but I could use some help if you know SF landmarks. Can anyone help me figure out which street this clip is filmed on? (the part with Truman and the escort). I want to do a little then & now update for the family.

Any help is appreciated -- fun look at the Bay Bridge back in the day towards the end.

Thanks

Awesome Video! I recognize a few, very few places aka The Golden Gate!

Sorry can't help on identifying the streets. But Thanks for a great share, especially since this is the Anniversary of the Great Earthquake.

I'm not from SFO, but I'd bet the shots of the motorcade are on Van Ness.
That's the only street that wide and straight I can think of. I was told it got that way because they blew up buildings on Van Ness to create a fire break at the time of the great quake, which as Sydney said, happened on this date in 1906.

Market is a possibility as well, I think it is actually wider and flatter than Van Ness. I first thought Van Ness, but there is a hill that didn't seem apparent. That was a bit before my time and I couldn't see any land marks that I recognized.

Well, I have been noodling on google street view, and I think it may be California … just really hard as I feel like I have been there. Just going to have to go spend a day in the city. The view from twin peaks is so cool - no big buildings downtown. Real treasure finding all of his film.

LOL NO BIG BUILDINGS? There are now!! It's freaky riding in the "hood" I got lost downtown last time I was there & have never seen so many potholes & pedestrians and tracks & who knows what else. I was like get me outa here!

I get lost EVERY time I go to "the city".

Yeah, it is hard when you need to figure out where you are going and still try and run the guantlet.

It took me a while to figure out where the city view was taken in the first scene. At first glance I thought it was from the Berkeley Hills, but the Bridge was Backwards! And stopping to pay tolls leaving the city -- plus the simple Y at the Oakland / Berkeley split with two way traffic on the bridge. Simpler times for sure.

Men in one car, women in the other … wouldn't wanna try that today!
