Re: Got a ticket today
Fight it...it's not safe to ride with a 10 mile an hour speed differential between your speed and the flow of traffic. Subpoena the officers ticket records to see if he picks on bikes...Call me as a witness - I commute 280 daily and No One goes 65, except big trucks, not even Muni buses do the posted limit...

Re: Got a ticket today
Allways put up a fight. As stated in many other replies....going slower than the flow will get u run over. Be sure to point out.....You were not passing anyone.

Re: Got a ticket today
I like Darth Lefty's suggestion of "Trial by Written Declaration." Added advantage to this strategy: cops get paid overtime to show up in person for a court date, but they don't get OT for TBWD. Therefore, cop is less likely to spend the time responding to a ticket he/she wrote months earlier, particularly if they don't get paid for the time spent writing it. No response from ticketing officer = dismissal.
I have not tried this strategy myself. I remember reading this suggestion from Aaron Robinson in "Car and Driver." YMMV. Good luck! |

Re: Got a ticket today
By the OP's own admission he was speeding. He got caught. Who cares how fast anyone else was going or what the flow of traffic was? How about people taking responsibility for their actions?
A license in California is not a right, it is a privelege. |

Re: Got a ticket today
Absolutely agree. Last year I got stopped in Yosemite which is 45 mph throughout the park. I complied with the Ranger and accepted my speeding ticket. As I was putting my license away he spotted my LEO identification and asked why I didn't tell him and would have cut me a break. I told him I was wrong and I'll take my lumps like anyone else.
