I live a long way from the best riding in California. So, it is important for me to be able to experience the rides again and again. My ride videos, Apple TV and a big screen HDTV allow me to be there again. The view mirrors the perspective I have while riding the ride.

Many think that it is nuts to go to this effort. Just live free and ride. This may be enough for some, but for me I enjoy documenting my rides. I enjoy the ability to share the rides as well. And someday I will be able to show my grand kids how I used to have fun.

The very best smooth HD video comes from a helmet mount. You see, the very wide angle of the GoPro is fine to a point. The wide angle "hides" a lot of the vibration. For real HD capture, I prefer real optical stabilization. That is where the camera optics move in response to movement in the camcorder. Very few camcorders do this well. The Sony I have has been the very best for years, until the promise of this new Sony.

I have tried three different helmet mounts: 1) Professional suction mount - which proved to be a PITA to realign with each use. 2) Side RAM Mount - which proved to be too heavy on one side. and, 3) Top RAM snap mount - which is the hot ticket. However, alignment took several adjustments to get right. Now all I do is to snap the camcorder on and off easily. The alignment is always perfect.

A quick jaunt uphill from the coast on Skaggs Springs Road. While this is a great BMW R1200GS road, the relative lack of power between the GS and the BMW K1600GTs allowed pretty big gaps from time to time.

This is just the west end of the road.

OK, how often do you get to have Hwy 58 all to yourself. With flagmen on either end of the mountain section, stopping all traffic for you own personal use of the road? This video is the result of just such an occurrence.

Everyone on my rides has GMRS B2B radio. So, we are always able to tell each other what we are encountering, or going to do. So, when you see us pass each other we have communicated this action in advance.

Having the ability to talk to each other has been one of the most important safety additions we have ever made part of our ride requirements. When we are spread out over some distance, we all still know where to go and how everyone is doing.
