Hog Island Oyster Company - Hwy 1 (Marshall)

This is one of those places a person either loves or just comes to look around and not eat. You either love the food or you don't!

One of my regular stops when I do my rides up north to Hwy 1 (which is at least once a month) is the Hog Island Oyster Company. I didn't start out liking oysters, but always loved seafood. Then one day I sampled some fresh oysters with some great sauce on them and I was hooked.

I love going to this place not only for the great menu, but also for the views on the entire ride during the day, the roads that I travel on that day and for the simple fun that it is to spend time there. They usually have some great music playing too.

The establishment is in the mist of remodeling right now and is looking better and better every trip up.

well there is also character to the establishment too.

The menu is pretty good

and they even tell you the great nutritional values.....

They have a friendly staff that gets your order immediately.

and before you know it you have your plate and it's usually heaping,

I usually always get one of their great tables with a view (although I haven't figured out if it means I'm a regular and seemingly important, or they do this for everyone)

You can have your order raw and unseasoned,

Although I like mine with a little kick to them

Here is just a couple of other views from my table

This is just part of my Goldwing tool kit that I keep with me all the time 12 months a year.

Be sure to give them a try, plus Hwy 1 ain't too shabby to ride either......

I love that area. Do you know if Nick's Cove has opened back up. That used to be my favorite place in Marshall to stop and get clam chowder. Hey had a fairly large menu to chose from, as well as a great view of Tomales bay.

I know they closed down do to "change in ownership" a couple of years ago, and the last time I was through there, the restaurant was still closed.

heinee - I can't help you on that one and will have to check it out the next time I am up there, which is generally pretty often. I see there is a phone listing in Marshall for them of (415) 663-1033. I'd say it's probably time for you to have some more clam chowder and make a run to the coast to see.

If you're not successful then I'd suggest one of several great places I've gone to up further on Hwy 1 in Bodega Bay: Lucas Wharf, Inn at the Tides, or the Sandpiper Dockside Cafe (well this one is off Hwy 1 on the north side of town on Bay Flat Road near the harbor water). I'll check Nicks out on my next visit.....unless the fresh oyster cravings are getting to me, plus several of my motorcycle friends want to go over for fresh oysters to Johnson's over on Drake's Bay. Not quite the view and no picnic tables, but fun to visit too.

Re: Inn at the Tides, I drove my Z-28 there for an early dinner for my 21st b-day, and had my first legal glass of wine at a small table next to a window looking out on the bay I think that was 1987, right before I discovered motorcycles. I 've seen the Sandpiper before...I will have to make stop there sometime this year.
