Saddle Sore 1000 - 1000 Miles in 24 Hours

PRELUDE

I sold my last bike about 7 or 8 months ago. It was a 1984 Venture Royal touring bike that my wife had bought me when we got married. She and I used to ride everywhere and she decided the back of a "crotch rocket" was just not the way to travel in style. I was not riding it much anymore, it needed a lot of work, had way too many miles on it, and it just didn't motivate me any more. Since the kids, we rode less and less. I had...

Congratulations to you both for a rewarding trip in so many ways.

First, to enjoy an outing which allowed you, dad, to bond with your young son in a way that will stay with you both for ages.

Second for supporting a charity close to your hearts.

And third, for being a great role model for your son! You, working hand in hand with him at a formative age, showed him how to set a goal, focus on the job at hand, and then how tenacious one has to be, in the face of diversity, to succeed.

Not having children of my own, your report really made it clear to me some of the rewards of being a parent.

Nice job, dad!!

Sore 1000, great story. Putting together small group for Labor Day. Renting out of Modesto. Doing Yosimite, then to Morro Bay and up coast, cross GGB, thru Delta and back to Modesto. Planning on four day run. My grandfather rode from Indianappolis to Denver in 1907 on Strap Tank Wagners so grandsons putting this one together. Would welcome any comments. Have you ever done Hecker Pass?
