Make your own LED brake light

ok was driving by a semi and really liked how bright the rear LED tail lights were. so stopped by semi supply store in West Sacramento and bought a 60 LED stop, turn, running light for $34.00 for Light, gromet, and pigtail. drilled 3 holes with 2 1/2 holesaw, shaved some plastic ran three wires. Red is running light, black is brake, white is ground and WOW . Very noticable in daylight and even more at night.

Must be getting old as i am thinking of amber LED's with quick disconnects for the outside edges of the bags also.

When i was 17 i would have been figuring out how to turn off the rear tail lights

posted two pictures on my website.

Nice Job Shawn, You are getting old, me too though

P.S. Do you tie that rope that is around the throttle to your waist? Pretty fancy seat belt!

Looks more like a safety lanyard to turn the throttle back when you fall off!

Re: Make your own LED brake light

I attended a seminar this week on LEDs.

It was stated by a very knowledgeable intructor that LEDs light fast enough to make a difference in traffic safety.

The example led flood lights given was that at 50MPH, the difference in light up time between LED brake lights and conventional blue led strip incandescent brake lights is worth 8 feet in stopping difference led panel for the car behind.

In other words, if you have LED rear lights, all other things being equal, the car behind you will stop 8 feet further back.

I added this to the rear mud flap of my vfr. Nobody wants to ride behind me since it's pretty annoying lololol. You can set the adjust the frequency of the led flash.
