GPS trackers

Good afternoon,
Does anyone have any experience with GPS trackers? My insurance will go down if I fit one on my FLHTK.
Any information is welcome.

Re: GPS trackers

Are you talking about recovery systems similar to LoJack here in the states? If so, I have it on my cars but not on the motorcycles. I usually let the coverage lapse when the car is about 6 years old (with the exception of the '57 Chevy that always remains covered). My bikes are kept in a locked garage at home and seldom left in areas where they are subject to theft, so I don't see the point in an extra $700 or so - besides, who would steal at Moto Guzzi

there is a way of using a cheep cell phone hard wired to the batt in a car/truck/boat/bike/etc and a free (so far) program online.
this way you can do your own low-jack...but not sure if a insurance company would approve of it.
can use it to track your kids including speed. and wife..how long at the no tell motel.

even if the battery is removed from the bike the built in battery in the phone will last for some hours.
less cost then the low-jack program but you must do the work.
no i have not used this..yet. no cash even for it, let alone the pricey company's deal.

Re: GPS trackers

I have a friend that uses the SPOT tracker all the time. It seems to work fine. Here is a link---http://international.findmespot.com/
Are you in Zaragoza, by chance ? I have a friend that lives there, and she rides.

Re: GPS trackers

How about Bike Alarms? I am looking to get an alarm for my 2012 Vic XCT and need some recommendations. I have seen Scorpion, and Gorilla.

Thanks
Elliot

Re: GPS trackers

Thank you guys for coming back to me.
JDGretz: Yes , that's exactly the thing I'm after. Here in Europe they just lift your bike into a van and it will spend the rest of it's life in Siberia.
Packnrat: Thanks, great idea, will work it out further.
Ramjet:Will get into it. No mate, sorry, Zaragoza is a long way away. And my wife won't let me chase your girlfriend. (We've just returned from European HOG rally in Cascais, Portugal. Awesome event, over 10.000 Harleys.)
Strike: My bike has an alarm. That's just not good enough to keep the mafia at bay.

Re: GPS trackers

Here's the local contact/distributor in Spain

Spain & Portugal

Detector, S.A.
Avda. Industria, 6. Edificio A, 3 planta
28108 Alcobendas - Madrid
Tel: 34-91-490-30-30
Fax: 34-91-662-67-04
Contact: Javier Goikoetxea
Website: http://www.grupodetector.com

They can give you a better idea of the cost for your bike. It's a good system and they have a pretty good track record in the States for recovery. The unit I have on my car has an addition that tells me if the car gets started and moved more than xx feet from proximity fob, thus I can turn my car over to valet parking yet be assured it will not leave the lot without me knowing as I hold on to the fob. I got that tossed in when I bought the system - I wouldn't pay extra for it however.

Re: GPS trackers

Here's another company( http://www.guidepointsystems.com )

I just got this theft recovery system through Huntington Beach Honda( Calif) with a new CBR...they told me I was their first customer using this theft recovery system so I get to be the Honda Dealer's beta tester of sort I guess.

They sold the security system as a lower cost alternative to Lojack although with all the features and ease of use the GPS might be even better than Lojack--never owned a Lojack system to compare. The GPS website even let's you login and check the bike's location via a Google type of map at any time...you may not want to tell your wife or gf about this feature.

If someone steals the bike while you are working, and the bike moves 1 mile outside of the last keyed use; GPS calls you on your cell phone and three-ways a phone call with the police giving the police the bikes location within 10'.

They said recovery is usually within 2 hours.
