My wife and I are heading to Point Reyes and/or Tomales on Thursday and coming back Sun or Mon. We are towing the FZ1 with our camper and camping somewhere along the coast, and planning to ride up and down the coast. I realize it will be crowded with the holiday, so I don't expect superfast riding on wide open roads, but we can't resist the Hog Island oysters!
I'm hoping for fun curvy roads with good views, that aren't to far from Pt Reyes. I was looking at Skags Springs, but it seems to be a long roundtrip from Pt Reyes, especially on a heavy traffic weekend. Any suggestions on campsites in the area that are off the beaten path (meaning not sold out 2 days before 4th July) and fun moto rides in the area? We don't need any hookups, just a place to park the truck and moto trailer. We will also be bringing our mtn bikes and looking for some tasty singletrack. Thanks! |

I will be staying here over the 4th of July weekend. http://www.olemaranch.com/ It isn't really off the beaten path as you say but is in a great location to get to some good riding roads. You can walk to the restaurant on the corner for oysters and its a short drive to Pt. Reyes Station for cheese at the Cowgirl creamery. I will be leaving the bike at home and taking the family for some R&R this trip. We like this place because it does have full hook-ups and I like to be comfortable. |

Another good choice for lunch is Priscilla's in Inverness. It's aso a good place to argue with some of the locals about the inadvisability of "saving" the mule deer in Marin, a species that should be shot in far greater numbers. Good pizzas, fish tacos, and at least at one time they had a portabello burger that was so good you forgot it didn't have any meat. Good regular burgers too. Meatball sandwiches, several permutations on the local oyster theme, etc.

It's beautiful out there. Follow the road to the lighthouse, it's fantastic. The beaches are beautiful, deadly to swim but beautiful to look at and typically quiet. Hope you had a great weekend
