Weekday ride end Sept.

I've got a family holiday planned for late September & would also like some respite from the grandkids, so i'm planning at least one day on a bike. I've scanned Google maps & like the look of this one:- http://goo.gl/maps/3VGo Sorry but I can't figure out how to post a map.

I'd like to do a two day hire of something a bit sporty (not HD) so any advice on day rides from Anaheim will be much appreciated.

Cheers, Peter.

Re: Weekday ride end Sept.

Many thanks for those maps John. The Malibu alps look interesting so if I can't get there on a bike i'll try to incorporate some of it on our way to San Francisco in the car.

The additions on your second map i've considered before but the extra distance would make photo's & socialising somewhat rushed.

I also need to consider that i'll be on a strange bike on some very scenic mountain roads & a different side of the road to what i'm used to. I love riding hard through the twisty bits but this time i'd like to take in the view.

Re: Weekday ride end Sept.

Don't worry about being on the wrong side of the road. LOL Most the cars drive over our double yellow lines. You may have a distinct advantage.

One thing to be wary of in Los Angeles area is when on a freeway, you can get trapped in the fast lane(closest to the center aka Carpool lane) There are only certain places to enter & exit. There are some very fun roads to explore one you are out of LA proper.

JO's maps sum up some great routes. You can zig zag your way back & forth thru the canyons. If midweek traffic on the canyon roads isn't bad.

Have a great time!!!

Re: Weekday ride end Sept.

Thanks for the advice Sydney. I bought a GPS with US maps a couple of months ago so i'm hoping that will get me through. Mind you, half the fun of a new city is getting lost.

I just came back to see where I can include some of the Malibu roads in to my trip north only to find your maps have been deleted & i'm copping abuse.

If you had read my initial post you'd have seen mention of DAY rides & the possibility of two days. The place I intend hiring from don't open until 10am, so i'd be lucky to leave there by 10.30. I also think they close at 5.00pm. The map I posted is about 260ml & 6.5 hours of continuous riding plus an extra 24ml each way to pick up the bike. Doesn't leave much time for sight seeing does it? The reason i'd like the bike for two days is that on the second day I could leave the hotel at 6.00am thus giving me more time to investigate the maps you posted .... but now gone.

I thought there was a brotherhood amongst motorcyclists worldwide & we all helped each other. I just hope if I run in to trouble I don't have to rely on you for help Mr. Owstrich .... I'd hate to waste your time.
