Re: Jester's & Chief's Geocache Stash
OK guys, this is what happened today, 2/18/07. I left Rio Vista at the crack of noon thirty. I took the back roads to Livermore where I hit ***** Rd. and followed it to *** ****** ****** Rd. When I reached the degree and minute coordinates I spotted the first clue. I passed it so I had to find a safe place to turn around. Once parked I was feeling pretty good.
![]() The next clue was easy to spot. ![]() Yeah baby, this is going to be easy... Not!!! I scanned the area for the stash spot but the actual coordinates did not coincide with; N 37 degrees 25 minutes 35.2 seconds W 121 degrees 20 minutes 27.8 seconds. It was then I thought to myself... HMMMMmmmm... These guys are going to make me work at it. With GPS in hand I started towards the above headings. Following a small deer trail I finally located W 121 degrees 20 minutes 27.8 seconds but the N seconds was waaaaaay off at 75.5. I searched the general area which is about a mile or more from the rock, to no avail. Not wanting to give up since I rode a long way plus I didn't want Larry & Kenny think I was a dumb$h!t or a quitter, I decided to follow a line to find the N. coordinates. I crossed the creek, still looking everywhere for what I remembered of the picture. I ran out of flat land. I thought to myself at this point "Those dirty guys... They really went to extremes", so up the mountain I went. Gasping for air and trying not to go ass over teakettle back down the steep mountainside, I continued searching. According to the GPS I still was still a long way from the stated location so I decided to rest for a few. At the elevation I was at I had a great view so I glanced over to where my bike was and ...WTF, It's gone!!! Enough Geocache, I hauled @$$ down the mountainside, across the creek (without stepping stones) and through the brush towards the road. This was bad, there was no time to take the trail back so once to the road I went over a barbwire fence and was hot footing it back to where I had parked my bike. I reached the small parking pull out by the gate that I saw from the mountain where I parked my bike. My heart was pounding so hard by then I could feel my eyes throb with each beat. While I gasped for breath it suddenly hit me... This is not where I parked; there are no bullet shells in the fence post. Looking further into the far distance up the road I spotted my bike!!! Hallelujah!!! Once back to my trusted STeed I broke out the water and quenched my thirst and caught my breath. I thought to myself I didn't want to admitt defeat but it was getting late. Nature was calling so I went down by the rock one more time. I answered the call then decided to look around one last time before leaving. Let's see... branches , leaves, hmmmm, trees... hey, wait a minute! This looks like it could be it... Ta Daaaa!!! ![]() My actual coordinates; N 37 degrees 25 minutes 587 seconds W 121 degrees 20 minutes 477 seconds ![]() I didn't take anything but left behind these items minus GPS; ![]() ![]() ![]() For the wild goose chase!!! ![]() But it is all good. Thanks for the fun and you guys are the best. P.S. I saw Don's card there too, Did he ride up with Larry? ![]() Heading back to Rio Vista.

Re: Jester's & Chief's Geocache Stash
Right on Dennis
I'm glad your other locator was working ![]() You might want to check the cal. on the GPS device. I put my coordinates into a couple of online locators and it landed right on the stash For those of you that would rather use decimal coordinates, here ya go: 37.426444 -121.341056 |

Hey Dennis,
Good post! Very funny. Your salute to the chase and that expression on your face says it all. If I had a GPS, I would have taken a crack at it myself. All good fun guys.

Hey Kenny, I don't have a calibration for my (GPS) unit. What north reference are you useing on yours? Mine is set to Magnetic North with a 015° E variance. I am trying to figure out the difference in our readings. Maybe I should change to True North??? The Geocache is still in place! Who else wants to give it a try?
