Re: Can-Am Spyder-Roadster

Article in this months Cycle World about this (or was it Motorcyclist).

What's interesting about this they don't want people to think of it as a motorcycle with three wheels. What remains to be seen is if they can actually mass produce these things, and find somene to buy them. Certainly they have the financial backing. On the flip side, the saying goes, not all ideas are good ideas.

But overall, interesting to watch the industry try to create additional niches to get people into motorcycling- that would never have considered it before. Or at the very least the sensation of being on a motorcycle.

Trigger's Can-Am Spyder

I returned from hiatus. I traded my Ninja EX250 for a Can-Am Spyder and posted my experiences on the Can-Am forum http://www.can-amtalk.com/forums/index.php.

There is an initial recall on all models for a fault in the brakeline. My Spyder spent 6 days in the shop but the brakes work fine now. The Spyder handled well in the rain on the road to Julian last weekend. We ate at the Julian Cafe and met a BMW motorcycle rider. He mentioned a close call on one of the turns. What looked like wet dirt turned out to be mud. The Spyder cruised through the turns in the rain with no problems. We arrived just at breakfast, and on the return trip, we waved at the motorcycle groups heading toward Julian. I got a couple wave backs. The guys were asking alot of questions. The women didn't ask any questions, they were too cold and shivering and wanted to get indoors where it was warm. haha. I am going to invest in a pair of heated grips ($30) or a pair of water-resistant riding gloves. I see the Pazzo levers group buy, but I don't know if there is a set that can fit on the Spyder.

Re: Can-Am Spyder-Roadster

I test rode one of the CanAms after the Love Ride at the bike show down south. They were fun but to me they were more like a go cart than a bike. Everyone riding out on the road seemed to be having a great time & no problem keeping up or anything so they obviously have plenty of get up & go.

I was only able to go around their course a couple times so of course didn't get a true feel for it.

I saw one of these on Watt Ave. South a few days ago.

Looked REALLY cool, but he seemed frustrated that he couldn't lane share to the light at Folsom.

But it looked REALLY REALLY cool, comfy too.

Re: Can-Am Spyder-Roadster

Ski-Doo and snowmobile for the street. I like it, it's a fun ride. My morning commute is almost an open road because I've noticed traffic slowing down behind me while I am in Lane 3, and nobody passes me in Lane 1. I'm travelling at a speed of 70mph, acceptable for the highway commute, but please, if you're in a hurry, take Lane 1. I'm just a ex-ninja 250 rider for goodness sakes.

I'm planning a road trip to see the LA Spyders this weekend. I can only hope my work schedule clears up by Friday evening. Otherwise, I'm on my own again and I'll try a road trip to Fort Irwin.

If you are even contemplating a ride up toward my area, try a bit of this route. It'll run you along the famous Pines to Palms route then up around Rim of the World. You could also go east out of Running Springs and go around lake Big Bear. If you want, I could hammer out a little more detailed route with food, gas etc. Watch the weather, Big Bear is up above 5000 ft!

I just slabbed you back to San Diego, it's about 375 miles round trip.
I would love to join you, but I'm going to play with the 559ers this weekend.

Re: Can-Am Spyder-Roadster

Hey Matt, I like that road plan. Plenty of open road, gas stops, and lots of scenery. When I get back stateside, I'll send a rally. I've ordered new gear, digital camera and video. Another excellent ride.
