Re: Garmin zumo 550 GPS A Riders Review

Ok I whipped out the credit card and sprung for one last night. It should be arrriving by the end of the week.

Here's where I need help!!! What else do I need to get this thing up & going?

I have a Shuberth C2 and would like to get the inside the helmet speakers etc. I have no inclination to use the phone but despise all the wires. (Or at least keep everything to a minimum) Anywhere to get all that installed? And WHAT KIND? I do want to listen to music on occasion as well as hear the directions.

What about the larger storage chip? I'm pretty stupid when it comes to all this techy stuff. I promise I will read the directions!!!

Can I hook this up myself like the Gerbings are wired into my battery or are there fuses etc I need to deal with? (I have no cigarette thingy on my bike)

I may be ZUMOing in on you guys for help this weekend!!! LOL

THANKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.....

Re: Garmin zumo 550 GPS A Riders Review

After thinking about this for a few weeks, I just ordered one myself. Should be here tomorrow, in time for this weekend's riding.

Looks like I won't be getting it tomorrow, because Amazon can't seem to figure out that "1-day shipping" and "estimated delivery date: May 18" means it, you know, has to ship BEFORE May 18.

I knew there was a reason I kept the direct phone number to Amazon's executive customer relations around for a reason.

God, Amazon has gone downhill in the past few years.

Amazon ships out of Fernley, NV the other side of Reno. It took almost 3 weeks for me to get some movies I ordered. I was ready to ride over and just go pick them up! LOL

It's like the Tar-get' ad....OPEN OPEN OPEN!

Actually, as I discovered after lengthy conversations with the head of the executive customer relations department late last year, they ship from a number of warehouses and fulfillment centers, based on what you ordered, which centers have stock, and their distance from you.

Most things I order do indeed come from the Fernley fulfillment center. Some don't.

Regardless of where it comes from, though, when I click that "1-day shipping" one click button, I (stupidly?) assume that means it'll actually be here the next day. Particularly when their own delivery date indicates tomorrow's date.

*sigh*

instead, it's just stuck in "shipping soon".

And I'd actually arranged my day tomorrow so I'd be able to receive the package and have time to install the unit. Grr.

Oh, well. I just called Peg Anderson (the head of ECR I keep mentioning), left her a voice mail. Hopefully, she'll figure something out, even though this completely screws me for Saturday and Sunday, since even if I got Saturday delivery, nobody'd be home to receive it.

I just get so tired of having to escalate things to their corporate office. But calling their normal customer service just gets me an outsourced call center outside the US that reads a script at me, then repeats what they see on the screen regarding my order, which is exactly what I can see myself without calling them. For some reason, they think having another person read it to you makes it magically all better.

Re: Garmin zumo 550 GPS A Riders Review

I wish there was someplace to buy it local to the SF Bay area that wasn't the $999 price. Amazon's now showing it being delivered on Tuesday.

EDIT: Well, major props to my contact in executive customer relations. I just got off the phone with her, and she picked up the phone knowing who I was (and that it was me on the line, from Caller ID). She's now calling her contacts in Fernley, and is actually going to try to get it shipped today for delivery today! o.O

She's going to give me a call back in a little bit with more info.

She noticed it was a GPS, and asked if I was planning on a trip. I told her, "yeah, tomorrow." and she sprung into action.

Not that I'm particularly pleased with having to bug her about things like this (I happen to have her number from last year when I had to escalate up to her for a major screw-up, and she told me to hang onto it and call her if they screwed up again), but it's nice to know it's still possible to get good service from them.

EDIT THE SECOND: Well, she called back. The Fernley, NV distribution center had a major problem yesterday, and all packages leaving there yesterday were hosed. So it wasn't just me. And my package is in fact on a UPS truck right now, but unless she can work a miracle, she can't get it here today.

So, I'll have to wait til Monday for delivery. On the upside, she's refunding me $100 of the cost of the unit, so I'm getting a brand-new Zumo 550 for $613.33.

Guess I really can't complain at this point.

I ordered mine from gpsonsale.com and only paid 669 and they had it to me in 2 days. They have all the accessories as well.

Re: Garmin zumo 550 GPS A Riders Review

Hi Gang,

I did my homework on this one and found the Garmin Zumo 550 to be the way to go ... and I found it on line at the cheapest price I could get here:

http://www.buydig.com/shop/product.a...&sku=GRZUMO550

Note the following ... when I contacted another vendor about another Garmin device that I had bought from them ... and told them that I had found the 550 at the above site for so cheap ... they seemed upset ... and said they were going to "turn them in" to Garmin for violating resale policy or something like that ... so I immediately went to the above site and bought the 550 ... before they get yanked of the net or something.

So if you want to get one from them ... I'd do it soon.

Steve
