Curvy Road Death Valley

I just returned from a trip to Death Valley. With 5 other riders. Two BMW's and Four Harley's, Round trip 1100 miles. Leaving Santa Cruz we road out to HWY.178 following the Kern river to lake Isabella. We spent our first evening in Ridgecrest Ca, In the morning proceeded to Stovepipe Wells, then over to Scotty's Castle which is in DV, Later that day we reached our destination of Furnace Creek, Death Valley. Death valley was a fresh water lake which dried up 10,000 years ago surrounded by mountains up to 11,000 ft. and lightly snow capped. It was an incredibly beautiful ride. We had extreme tempertures fluctuating from 38 to 93 degrees. Got up @ the crack of stupid to see a sunrise @ Zabriskie's point. The shadow's cast on the point changes from moment to moment. Our point's of interest were Artist's drive, Artist's Palette, Badwater Basin, Scoot's Castle, We drove passed Devil's Golf Course, and you could see the Ubehebe Crater driving along, and Haromny Borax Works. For those of you that remember, this is where the 20 Mule teem Borax commericial was created. The wagon weight and the Borax combined total was 36 tons per load. and traveled 20 Mi. per trip.

What, no pix? Sounds like you guys had a great trip. Was there still snow on 178 at the summit?
I'll bet you recognize these shots!

Re: Death Valley

Walter, it's been 80 degrees here lately... Hwy 178 is bone dry and looking like Spring has sprung. Snow on that stretch (that sticks) is very rare anyway. Should be clear over Hwy 155 as well.

BTW Jack, pics...need pics.

I figured as much. I did get snowed on at the top in April several years ago, though. We're heading over that way next week. Actually, coming BACK that way. Off to Mojave for a few days of dualsport on the GS

wbunning: pics to follow I didn't bring a camera. Two riders did however. 178 and 155 were clear but cold 38 degees The peeks were dusted. We were going to go through Panamint but it was even colder and a semi was overturned the winds were 47 mph. so we turnned back @ the saloon on Hwy190. and headed back cold through lovely Trona on Hwy 178.
