Photography Question: Lens Angle
What focal length (or is the correct term lens angle?) do you find yourself using most often for: 1) pics capturing interesting stretches or curves in the road and 2) motorcycle photos?
Naturally, answers will vary with camera type and subject. I have been using a Nikon D70 lately, which is a digital SLR. |

Re: Photography Question: Lens Angle
Anywhere from 19mm(I'll have to confirm that number with Strega 51) to 300mm. 19mm is great for getting really close to something and still fitting it in the frame. 300mm is good for action shots at the track.

Re: Photography Question: Lens Angle
Drew -
Beautiful shots. I've been looking at getting one of the Nikon 70 - 200 zoom lenses for my D70, but those shots of yours are making me think some more. Thanks, Mark |

Re: Photography Question: Lens Angle
Thanks Drew. I think Nikon should pay you a commission for this one!

Re: Photography Question: Lens Angle
My favorite lens of the moment is the Canon 35mm-350mm tele-zoom. Coupled with the Canon 1D mark II Digi-SLR, it's dust/moisture resistant, fast, and with the range of wide to long I can shoot most situations with just the one lens.
Only drawback, the combination is large and rather heavy and needs special handling to take out on the bike.

Re: Photography Question: Lens Angle
John,
That lens is comparable to the one I'm thinking about for my Nikon D70: http://www.nikonusa.com/template.php...roductNr=2139# I would combine this with a 1.7 teleconverter in hopes of getting some pro-quality wildlife shots as I get up into some remote areas this summer and BC and Alaska next year. The size is a drawback, not the lens you'd want as the full time lens for pulling off the road and taking some quick shots of the twisties. Another drawback is the $$$, which is why I'm taking a hard look at the lens that Drew used for the track shots. Mark |
