Back in Fortuna, I set off to ride out to the ocean via Centerville Rd from Ferndale. Fun little goat trail.





What's out here is merely the beach and an abandoned military installation. When I asked around as to what this used to be, best answer was an old Submarine listening post, as where I'm standing is one the most western points in the United States into the Pacific (which is about 50 feet from where I'm standing) as they can listen to the south and north, not just out to sea. Hugh mentioned there was always a rumor there were secret Submarine pens (docking type thingys ) out off the coast here during the height of the Cold War, but that was never proven. Always interesting to learn about this sort of military history.

Other objective was to do a photograpy session with the Harley Ultra Classic in the wanning overcast setting sun. Makes for good light with shots like this.

Back in Ferndale, been awhile since I've shot a bunch of photography here of all the Victorians, but sun was quickly setting and losing the last of my available light.

If you want good photos in there (not much sunlight-use what you get), never use the flash, shoot low speed (hold still, and hold your breath ).



Can you get a sense of perspective?



Better? And these are just redwoods. Sequoia's are even bigger. But that's the Labor Day 4-Day Tour.
