Re: Northern California. A Pashnit Motorcycle Tour.

What an amazing trip! - A Classic Northern Coast adventure!! Where else but on a Pashnit Motorcycle Tour do you find 'Busas offroading through the pine boughs, see fully-dressed Harleys leading the pack through the twisties, experience searing heat 10 minutes after leaving the snow drifts, and get gas from an old-time working pump "delivering the goods" at $3.99 per gallon!?!

Thank you all for an unforgettable experience helping me put some quality and exhilarating miles on my new BMW K1200R.

Re: Northern California. A Pashnit Motorcycle Tour.

Wonderful photos, wonderful report, awesome roads!

Living in Eureka I was hoping to be able to get together with the group for a meal, drink or something. Alas it wasn't to be. The opportunity came for me to make my own 9 day trip from here in the redwoods down into northern Baja so I jumped at it. May next time you are in the area we'll hook up.

I can't believe you guys (and gal) took those cruisers over Forest Service 1 in APRIL! I've been turned around by snow in June up there. On July 1st they take cats and blades and make the road passable, until then it's a wild place. Well Done All!

Re: Northern California. A Pashnit Motorcycle Tour.

Tim and Gang
Both Schaun and I had a GREAT time this was our second trip and it is interesting how every trip has its own personality.... We got a chance to ride with Steve on his Yamaha SECA which looks like a MINI bike with him sitting on but we had a heck of a time trying to stay up with him . We also got a chance to ride with Tim and Becky on a spirited section of twisties and I gotta tell you it's amazing how someone riding two up can carve the turns like that . Doyle was just plain insane on that Busa and I think my son had his way with that Busa when Doyle wasn’t looking . Great food as usual and having a Micro Brewery next to the hotel parking lot was a bonus that XXX Stout was great. I am already planning a fall trip if I can get the time off.
I had a flat on the way home around Cloverdale Tim, Becky and Ken were 30 minutes behind us once we flagged them down Ken had his plug kit out and within 5 minutes we were ready to go. Boy I gotta get one of those plug kits and oh yeah that compressor is must have too.
We used radios this trip which was really cool just between Schaun and I but talking to Tim, Ken and Tim was a bonus to get some real time information I would highly recommend them.
My favorite quote of the weekend came from Steve after following Schaun and I down one stretch of twisties “ You guys look like two SUMO WRESLERS dancing in a Ballet “

Thanks for sharing Tim, those are great pictures as usual. Interesting to see you ride the HD. Good looking bike and a far cry from your usual ride. One of the best things about pashnit is there is no HD vs Japanese cruiser vs sportbike going on here, just people who like riding.

What's out here is merely the beach and an abandoned military installation. When I asked around as to what this used to be, best answer was an old Submarine listening post, as where I'm standing is one the most western points in the United States into the Pacific (which is about 50 feet from where I'm standing) as they can listen to the south and north, not just out to sea. Hugh mentioned there was always a rumor there were secret Submarine pens (docking type thingys ) out off the coast here during the height of the Cold War, but that was never proven. Always interesting to learn about this sort of military history.
My dad was in the Coast Guard during WWII. He was stationed at a god forsaken outpost near La Push, WA (due to some unfortunate luck in a bar while visiting Tijuana). I actually surfed there only 10 years ago. His job was to hike the beaches with a guard dog 10-12 miles north of La Push and listen for Japanese Submarines surfacing to recharge their batteries in the middle of the night! At 18 years old, he said it was all he could do to keep the dog from going crazy! He could hear the Japanese crew on the deck of the Subs, laughing, smoking, working. He said he would have both hands over the poor dog's mouth for hours.

Here's what it's like, just shut off the lights an add a few Bigfoot, 12 miles from anywhere civil.

Can't wait for AUGUST
