Re: 700 Miles on a Kawasaki Ninja 250 - A motorcyclist's review

Great write-up!

You can have a lot of fun on a 250, they're great in the twisties, make commuting a pleasure and of course they're ideal for learners.

Until recently this was my bike:

It's a Suzuki GSX250F Across. Not sold in the US as far as I know. 250cc, inline four-cylinder, 16,500rpm redline. An absolute hoot to ride.

I've upgraded to a GSX750F now (Katana to USians), but I learned a heckuva lot on that 250.

Re: 700 Miles on a Kawasaki Ninja 250 - A motorcyclist's review

Great write up. I got my first bike just a few months ago and I felt a lil out of place with some of my biker friends with my lil Ninja but now I feel like a made the right choice. I know this bike will take me a long way and the fact of being only 5 feet tall means I dont have many other options. I did have to shave the foam from the seat and drop it an few inches but I still love ever curve and twist on this bike.

Its nice to see people posting good things about the jr sport bike.

Just got a great deal on a barely used Red 2006 Ninja 250....only 199 miles when I drove it home. Dealing with the restrictions of the breakin period is going to drive me nuts--I REALLY want to open 'er up!!

ok make me cry. How much? I have just about given up on finding or even looking for one. I am going to change the sprockets on the XRL and see how that works out. Meanwhile.... I have this on my mind.

Justin, nice looking bike. I had it a year ago and I enjoy the bike so much but I was ready for an upgrade. Hope you enjoy the ride!!!

Craigslist is where you have to watch...
http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/mcy/177218336.html

I am at 289 miles now and I have kept it completely below 4,000 rpms at all times

I am absolutely Loving it so far!!

From the engine break-in information I've been reading, I think I'll do an early oil change tomorrow. This just rocks!! BTW---it has been 22 years since I've ridden! And THIS article and thread is a big part of what finally pushed me over the edge to get a bike again.

Re: 700 Miles on a Kawasaki Ninja 250 - A motorcyclist's review

It cracks me up that people almost always refer to the little Ninja as a starter bike. I think someone way up the thread made the comment that the older I get, the smaller my displacement gets. Thats where I am coming from. I have been riding since I was 7 years old (about 35 years of riding now, man I'm old). I have always had a bike of some kind or another since then. I have owned anything from Honda z50's to 1100 V-Stars, and love them all. I recently (last fall) sold the V-Star because I was getting tired of the "Great Big Bike" thing. I live a short distance from work, and rarely ride more than a 45 mile pleasure tour. I was sick of loud, big, and heavy. Wow, the 250 Ninja was just the ticket. So I guess I am still on my 21st. "starter" motorcycle.
These little buggers are a blast.
Oh, If you haven't riden one, the powerband and gearing will teach you to be a much better rider than you are now. It's worth a try. If you know someone with one, take it for a scream.
I dare you to come back without a smile on your face.
