Steve, is there a Southumberland? Or did the Northumberlanders take Umbrage with that?

PS great shots.

No Southumberland .
Northumberland is one of a few areas in the country that I have not previously explored . It is gorgeous , and the roads are quiet - great biking country , if you can win the battle with the wind , which is fierce even on a sunny day .
The beach at Bamburgh stretches for nearly eight miles , is nearly always almost empty , and people hardly ever venture into the sea [ the North Sea ] there , because the water is so cold [ not even the locals ] .
Within easy travelling distance there are many castles , including one at Alnwick [ used in the Harry Potter films ] which we didn't get chance to see , but we'll be back .
It's only 16 miles to the Scottish border , so people from the south rarely venture that far , as it is too far for most to be bothered to drive - which is great for folk like me , as I don't mind travelling long distances , especially if it means I get all that beautiful country and history to explore without having to battle my way through crowds of people.

Not as good as some of the pics posted here, but y'all have me thinking of unusual shots. This is a buddy of mine building a patio roof.

Icon7 Ships of the Desert

team orson finds themselves relegated to desert duty. Thankfully, this time of year it's still only 105° F / 40° C. I noticed a herd (gaggle? pod?) of camels munching on the sparse vegetation so i wandered over for a closer look.

Sorry for the cheap camera quality.

Camels no longer carry out the duties of old when they were the pack beasts here at the crossroads of civilizations between the spices & silk of the Far East, the frankinsence & gold from Africa to the coast of the Mediterranean where they found their way on to Europe. In spite of this, camels are still highly valued in the Arab culture and prime specimens fetch up to and over $100,000.

The herder saw me standing there and ventured over...you can barely make him out on the left astride his camel.

I don't speak more than a few phrases of Arabic but I found out his name was Saleh from the Sudan.

His smile is genuine. Most Arabs are incredibly hospitable. If Saleh had tea or coffee, I'm sure he would want me to sit and share a cup with him. Some times I wonder that in spite of the hardships these people live with, that they might still be the most blithely contented people around.
