Any 559'er with welding tools?
The metal part on my sidestand busted off. It's that part that extends out beyond the exhaust so you can put down the stand with the heel of yer boot. I have the part that busted off. I'm thinking a weld will make it as good as new, but who am I to say.
I have a technical mind, not a mechanical one. Thanks for any help you can provide or PM me.

Very simple, take the side stand off and go to any muffler place and let him weld it for $5.00 The reason I say take the side stand off the bike is that they ground the welder to the bike and that can fry some electronics on the bike so to be safe take the side stand off. I hope that helps. |

Re: Any 559'er with welding tools?
No help here, except maybe a suggestion. On my 76 R90/6 the center stand doodad came off and the luggage rack cracked (more than once, I was rough on that bike). I found a shop in Weedpatch that looked like an old blacksmith's shop ('cause it was). The welder was a straight up cowboy and a veteran of WWII. He was a good welder and after several visits showed me his war prize in one of the storage rooms. Slid open the door and pulled off the canvas from a WWII vintage Beemer (in good shape). It had originally had a side car but that got left behind in Germany.
Why might you ask? Seems he had no way to get the whole bike home and began to disassemble it to mail home in weight appropriate packages. When he got to the frame, he had to cut it into manageable sizes to mail. He could not figure out how to cut down the side car. Once home, he welded it back together and reassembled. Quite a charactor! Hope you find a welder like that. Much more fun than a muffler shop...though that is a great suggestion.

Re: Any 559'er with welding tools?
Thanks guys. I hooked up with a guy Friday night that goes out and buys frames of cars and builds just about anything for him. Saw several project cars in his garage, where he was building radiators and putting one turbochargers and stuff. He had the metal piece welded in no time. I will keep all suggestions in mind though. After all, the bike is close to 25 years old and something else is bound to fall off
