Solo Ride to Dead Horse(Prudhoe Bay Alaska)
I am new Pashnit but after seeing a very well done Bass Lake dual sport ride thread, I thought people might like to follow someone riding as far north as one can on two wheels. I will learn as I go regarding posting pics etc. Those veteran posters might email suggestions.

I can't wait to follow along, Jim! When do you plan to ride?

Re: Solo Ride to Dead Horse(Prudhoe Bay Alaska)
Jim:
Welcome to pashnit. Let everyone know the dates of your ride segments with locations as there are pashnit members all along your planned route and they may want to join you or offer assistence if you need it. There are also many KLR650 riders on this forum as well. Post a picture of your KLR ready to go. If you need help with any of this, let me know. Here is Jim practicing his "melted tundra" crossings at Bass Lake a few weeks ago on his XR650R.

Jim: I just posted my first photo reports a few weeks ago and found this posting by m0t0-ryder to be very useful - >>link<<. I look forward to reading your reports.

Re: Solo Ride to Dead Horse(Prudhoe Bay Alaska)
Here's a few pics of the bike I am taking to Dead Horse......
It's a 2003 KLR 650 with a few "extras". Center Stand, heated grips, high way pegs, Rick Mayer seat, "doo hickey" replaced, subframe upgrade kit, F-1 Engineering shock, steel braided front brake line, heavier front fork fluid, aluminum paniers, Givi Top case, Euro plug to run heated vest, steel radiator fan, radiator guard, C Baily's headlight guard, tank bag off my Triumph Tiger, moved the soft rear bags to the tank to have tank saddle bags, etc..... My basic plan of travel is up highway 1/101, cut over to Seattle, 99 to 97, 97 to 1 into White Horse, 1 to 2, do the Top of the World highway, work my way into Tok, ride into Fairbanks, Fairbanks to Dead Horse(Prudhoe Bay), back into Fairbanks, take 3 into 1 to Homer, Homer to Seward, take a ferry to Valdez to visit a friend in Valdez and go salmon fishing, then work back home to Reedley, CA. Anyone is welcome to join me in any part of my journey. Currently, I am going solo. Someone is joinning me on a Beemer at Gold Beach to ride up the Oregon Coast. |

Re: Solo Ride to Dead Horse(Prudhoe Bay Alaska)
Hi Jim,
Looks like you have your 650 set up very nice for the long haul. I am riding out of Bend Oregon July 12 to Yosemite the long way around. First Arcata, Reno, Yosemite, Mariposa and finally a visit to my Dad in Monte Rio. Then north up the coast July 16 or 17 and back to Bend. I will be on a KTM 640 dual sport. I did not see any dates posted for you so I posted my travel dates. Matt |
