The Alkali Flies. They should have filmed the movie here.

There were millions of them. Didn't expect all the flies. The ground is black. That's the flies!



No, that's not dirt. All that black is the Alkali Flies which live off the algae

Don't have a fast enough lens for this, but will repost this from old thread here. Mike Maloney shot this. Get a sense of the motion- clouds of these flies.

You can walk along the shore & just a buzz of motion and sound as the flies fly up, than land & go right back down. Someone mentioned if this were Northern Wisconsin we'd have to wear bee keeper suits or get eaten alive by these things!
