Re: Mexico acapulco
Hello Renaud,
I have considered a trip down your way, but was wondering about the roads, what extra gear would have to be added to the bike and whether or not safely or security would be an issue, especially for a female traveling solo. I have been a visitor a number of times to different areas of Mexico, however never on a motorbike. I have read some travel journels written by solo female riders and they sounded fun but not without challenge. But heck, challenge is good, i suppose...keeps us human!!

Re: Mexico acapulco
I don't think your bandit needs extra gear, I have a Fazer, and so far I have no problem. You just have to be a bit more attentive for holes that could surprise you on any road including motorways, also you will cross the road of animals drunk drivers and whatever you can think of...
![]() yet, I haven't been in the north, but for what I know, you will find much more concrete than sand if that was what you meant by extra gears. For these reasons, it’s not recommendable to cruse with high speed (even if my personal speed record has been established here in Mexico) but the good point is that you won’t pay as much as in the US or Europe if the police stops you for excess… I will recommend not to drive at night, mainly for the mentioned holes that would be harder to see at night, but also for dunked drivers, risk of assault... I am planning a trip to California, I hope in October, probably second half of the month to come and buy a Yamaha XS650... by the way, if you have any plan I give myself a week to find it, buy it, fix it if necessary and then I hit the road back to Mexico, I want to go all the way down Baja California to reach Los Cabos, then take the ferry to get back on the continent and keep heading south longing the pacific coast until Ixtapa then turning east toward Guanajuato and finally Mexico. If you plan your trip in the same time, let's say until the end of November, I will be pleased to make the road with you, just let me know. Otherwise, I will be pleased to answer any additional question or to advise you about some places. Regarding the fact of being a lonely girl on the road, I don't know what to tell you, for sure, it won't be a plan without risk, but I don't think it would be a lot more risky than doing it in the states or anything else. Do you speak a bit of Spanish ? Any contacts along your road ? If anybody is motivated to ride with us / me on the mentioned trip, welcome! Edit, Mexicans, at least with French people, I don't know for "Gringos", are very welcoming and the idea of traveling in moto is something absolutely incredible for them, for that, they are always ready to give you a hand if needed |
