Todays Lesson For The Day...

Well, Sunday was an eventful day of riding. I got to ride a handful of new roads including a new top 10 goat: Salinas Road. Wow, the views were superb!

Then we ventured out to Airline Highway where we got our first lesson in Fire Fighting.

Any fires? Nope, all clear...

So from there we headed down Highway 25 to Lonoak; where we pulled over to consult Ari's maps in regards to Lewis Clark Road. It looked inviting; however, I was curious. Another of today's lessons teaches you to keep you zippers zipped. Needless to say we got three runs on Highway 25, passing Never2Old and Dane (sp) on the way back to the Helicopter (where we found the maps).

So, after our 3 way Highway 25 journey Ari spotted something in the creek.

Well when one camera isn't enough...

Ari advised we not take mystery road into the dirt and instead we would go Hog Hunting. Here is where I learned a lesson: X Species of pig in Florida are the 2nd dangerous animals in Florida. Not to be confused with our would-be lunch.

So after our ham and bacon sandwich we headed over Lonoak and toward Lockwood-San Lucas. It was a different view then the $750,000 homes here on the coastal area.

We ended up getting a little snack tossed at us on the way; this lesson is entitled: 5 second rule applies even when food is bouncing and rolling on the ground.

Re: Todays Lesson For The Day...

After following said carrot truck, we made it to our mid-day destination. Lesson: When their is no sign saying you may not enter then it is best to assume it is ok to enter!

Couldn't find the keys for any of these

Hmmmmm Hmmmmmmmm

Ah, someone alerted the military that we were trespassing; keep your cool and we'll be ok!

Look, they're not even chasing after us. Ha, we made it out!

Well, then again...

Lesson: When one tank is pointing its gun at you, you are not safe. But when two are pointing their guns at you...

Of course, wheelie for safety (lesson training available by Andy)

Training lessons are available here, by appointment

Then we pulled off and had lunch by the creek. Well, from the looks of it there used to be a creek...

Lesson: When you have to swing your hands back and forth to keep the flies away then it is time to go!

The wildlife was aplenty on this ride: Pigs, Deer, Turkeys, and Black Cats, EEK!

One of the most important lessons of the day, Camera stays in bag!

Ari tries out the 1000. It's fine; however, for some reason your frame slider is bent in? I tried to explain aerodynamics to Ari, but it was a lost cause...

Such a beautiful road, Nacimiento-Fergusson

And the views...

The road conditions could have been better; look at these gashes!

So, we head up Highway 1 and I flag Ari to pull over and check out this side road.

So, we ran up the hill

And over the bridge

Lesson: When Ari shows you the neck slashing movement, do not run...

Then I got another lesson: When AFM racer isn't racing, don't race him.

The road is in good condition, except for these gashes...

Lesson: Watch out for big trucks pulling even bigger horse trailers especially when entering a hairpin turn. Despite the washboard and the rocks and the various other obstacles, I think Ari had a good time on this road.

The road offers some of my favorite views: Trees and Waterfalls

Bike ain't so clean now!

But who cares when you have such views as this...

After we got back to Highway 1, we ran up Carmel Valley Road over the Grade and down through Corral De Tierra and surrounding roads.

Was a good 330 miles today.

Re: Todays Lesson For The Day...

The last lesson, and most important one, learned today. Although you may wreck you should involve exciting stories.

This was the first "bin" on the GSXR and it was amusing non-the-less and easy to laugh off. I had the Canon out snapping a pic of Ari as we were going down Nacimiento-Fergusson Road. Maybe this is not the best road to shoot pictures while riding; however, the car in front of us would not budge and I figured no-harm no-foul. This was not so much the case when we hit dirt in the road. First of all I only had my left hand on the bar and my right on the camera, which by then was holding it down to the tank bag so it would not roll off.

I watched Ari brake so I did as well; then the bike slid so that I was facing about 40-45 degrees to the left instead of straight. So, I let of the brake and got it un-locked. As soooooon as it straightens out the damn camera takes a tumble over the tank bag and onto the tank where it lodges itself between the tank and the bar thus plunging us into the ground.

With the bike landing on the same side as the camera, which was lodged between the tank and the clip-on, I was in fear when I picked the camera up. I placed it to the side and we got the bike up. As Ari rode it to the side I checked the camera, good as new! So, now to the bike. Bent brake lever and bent bolt for the slider and a little bit of rash. We concluded the only reason the slider did not slide was because lack of speed, the slope, and the way it fell. I couldn't have asked for a better wreck, honestly. I mean wrecking sucks and should be avoided but this could have been worse.

Picture of damage, in no particular order:

Re: Todays Lesson For The Day...

That was the first thing that stuck my mind after that little incident. Well the bike is being sold so that I can get a dual sport. No need for a camera mount

Be thankful you're still in one piece and the damage to the bike is minimal. oh, and remember to always keep both hands on the handlebar, especially when negotiating less than ideal road conditions....
