Re: Brad (VFR Pilot) crashed his bike yesterday (in hospital now)
Brad, let us know when you're healed up enough to take calls and have visitors. My heart sank when I heard about the accident. Sounds like it was one of those freak, nothing you could do, type events. Main thing is you're OK and healing up. I'm thinking of a Fall ride over to the Tehachapi and Kern area. Would be awesome to stop by and catch up on things.
Mark, you are a great ride partner and no way you could have predicted some idiot would back their cage out in front of a following rider. Glad you were there to help Brad get stable and medical care. There is no one I'd rather have on scene to deal with a tense situation like this than you. Best wishes, speedy recovery. Tom

Re: Brad (VFR Pilot) crashed his bike yesterday (in hospital now)
Brad was more alert last night. His right foot is a nice shade of pink and the blood returns to his toe nail rapidly after a light pinch (circulation good). I got to meet his mom and sis...they are making him roll his eyes alot (a Bradism some of us know well...
). He is scheduled for a surgery today sometime and another on Friday. He is damaged badly with much more work left to do but still being the trooper he is. Brad is one of those cute round little guys (much like my Goju master...until you see the calloused knuckles and forearm or work out with him in the lead) that is built out of whang leather and scrap iron...decepively strong and tough. Here was an eye popping moment from last night. I got a good look at the cut on his thigh...it was probably from impact and tail light shards. It cut to the thigh bone and started at or very near his femoral artery and goes almost to the mid line on the outside of the thigh, a straight line that looks like it was made by a knife. Point here is that Brad's true helper kept him alive by a matter of inches, the femoral artery is a bad thing to cut...it is deadly to sever. Folks listen to me here please. I'm OK, what you are seeing in the earlier posts is a brain storming of the after action report. It has not caused me to become morose and depressed but is tightening up my resolve to be better prepared in case anything like this happens again. The deeper spiritual musings are what I am and a side that most of you don't get to see often (if at all)...it brings me comfort and a deeper strength to contemplate the one true mystery of all life. Both sides will help to unify me into a much stronger friend and helper. Can we focus this thread into a get well card for Brad please? |

Well shoot Dale.... I got used to meeting Brad at the Chevron Station in Santa Paula. He is my preferred rider to follow. He sets a good line on the road and he is fun to talk with at rest stops. Brad was lucky to have Law Dawg with him. Mr AJ

Re: Brad (VFR Pilot) crashed his bike yesterday (in hospital now)
Not much time so... Brad is going in for a 12 hour surgery today. He will be in ICU for about two more days after that. The surgeon is going to take grafts of muscle and skin to repair major damage to his soft tissue in the lower right leg (the damage was extensive). The good news came when Dr told Brad that his curculatory system in that area will function well enough to accept the graft...the alternative was loss of the right foot.
Today would be a good time to keep at the prayers (a 12 hr surgery is tough). Brad will be secluded and in pain this weekend. Off to work. |
