Re: Extraterrestrial Highway, Nevada - Hwy 375

I've been there as well.
It was on my 8 day 7 state ride as seen on page 3.

It was sooo damn hot that day () about 107) I only stopped at the Alien Inn long enough to suck down a cold beverage then continue on. Didn't even take a picture there!

I did get a pic of the ET highway sign tho...

I even ran into some alien looking critters!

Quote:
from the Article...
This is near the infamous “Area 51” where there have been numerous UFO “sightings”. Since there wasn't much else to see out here I kept my eyes open, but I saw no sign of UFOs. I did, however, run into Extraterrestrials... of sorts. I was cruising along, with a strong cross wind hitting from my right, when I felt some good sized impacts on my boots and leather pants from the knees down. What is that? No vehicles in front of me were kicking stuff up. What’s up?

Since I was cruising about 90mph I slowed it down to see what was going on. Then I saw them. Thousands of ‘em. Miles of ‘em. Locusts! All over the highway. I guess I was lucky. With the high wind they weren’t flying above waist level. And mostly not flying, at least until a moving object approached them. I didn’t get any of them on my windshield. Everything below about tank level was pretty bug-gutted up, though, including my boots and pants legs up to the knees.

These things are pretty Extraterrestrial looking so I guess Hwy 375 was an appropriate place to run into them. (I didn't stop for any locust photos... an error in retrospect.) Although I had thought about rain earlier (hoping for it to cool things down!) now I was hoping it would rain to clean off my boots and pants.

Its been a while since I've had a bike to Rachel, long before the days of digital photography. I find that neck of the woods scenic. And, I rode as fast as I ever have on a bike outside of Rachel, not a soul for miles around.

A couple of friends and I spent an intresting night there once. You stay in trailers next to the restraunt, very modest at best.We checked in and had diner and a few beers, then off to our rooms. After an hour or so a guy walks in through a back door and takes a shower. The guy never said a word.Did'nt clean the tub either!

Loved that place. There is actually a gas station in Rachel, too.

Here's my post about it:

and here:

Yeah, the pics are too big. I changed my blog theme and while I like it better there's less space, so I do my photos differently now. One day I might fix that.

I found out that the gas station closed some time in early 07. Got told the whole story while eating my burger. Not pretty according to the locals. Gal that runs the bar keeps around 20 gals in 5 gallon cans for the folks that might get stranded. Not sure how "Fresh" it was, but it got me to Tonapah
