Curvy Road Photo's Hwy 81 : 6/4/05 - Minarets - Mammoth Pool

Thought I would post a few pics from the ride up Hwy 81.
What can I say the weather was perfect.
The sights were killer.
The road conditons were so-so

Can't wait to ride there again

What a view! Looks like you had a really haze free day. This pic almost look like you're up in the sky somewhere looking down. And looks like I can see a bridge over the spillway too. Very cool.

Tim, there is a bridge and what appears to be a road down there too.
I just have no idea how to get down there .
We are all trying to figure out a way to get down there next time we go there.
The water was so loud it was crazy even from this elevation .

So do you have any idea on how to get down to this bridge ???
Anyone ???

J.C., Did you turn around at the Mammoth Pool Overlook? I'm guessing on the distance here, but roughly another 10 or so miles from there is a turn-off to go down to the lake. I hear there is also gas down there in the summer months, and a boat launch.

That is Redinger Lake Rd. One way to get there is from Power House Rd. Do you recall the bridge next to the power house? Anyway, immediately after crossing the bridge (coming from Auberry), there is a "T" intersection. Take the road to your right. You'll end up at that bridge. Continue on that road, It will take you to Rd 225 which takes you to South Fork if you go left or to Auberry if you go right. You can cross the dam, but the pavement ends. It's a dirt road that takes you to Mono Wind Casino.

No. I wish we would have though. I have been to the end only once before and didn't think I would have enough fuel to make it back to North Fork .
But what a great ride through the trees until the road just stops .

This time we were going to but we decided to head back down for food in Auberry. Then ride Hwy 168 east towards Fresno / Clovis.

There is gas and a general store with a restaurant. The boat launch is about a mile past the store. Pavement ends at the store.

Thanks Jim. I've never gone down there myself. I think I should this summer sometime though.

Matt, we went to the Mile High Look Out.
I guess that would be the Mammoth Overlook ??
I realley do not know that area to well.
We asked a few other people (jeepsters) that were sitting there if they knew how to get down there and they said they had no idea....

It's nice to hear that there is a place to get fuel though .
Cause that means a day of adventure trying to get down to that bridge
Thanks !!!!!!!
