If you are in the vicinity of the town of Mineral, just outside the south entrance, they do some awesome BBQ ribs at the Mineral Resort either Friday or Saturday night.

Have a great ride!
Thanks for the info, Bandit. We are coming up through Lassen tomorrow, rain or shine (hopefully shine), then on to Dunsmuir. Friday we move on up to Cave Junction, OR. We'll have to check out those Mineral ribs some time. I LOVE ribs.

Following my trip over all of the Sierra Passes I went up Hwy 89 to Lassen NP over the Memorial Day weekend and was hoping to get all the way over the top of the mountain, but at that time the road wasn't open and they were still working on it to get it cleared. Baring and new snow this week I would suspect it might now be open according to what the park ranger told me on how the work was progressing. None the less the trip and sights were extremely beautiful and was still worth the attempt although taking 89 all the way over the mountain is certainly more fun and scenic.

Well, aside from the road not being open all the way over the mountain, there was one other minor problem.

Yes, but my suggestion is to buy an annual National Parks Pass for $50 and if you travel to National Parks like I do you'll save a nice little bundle. Another fun thing to do is buy the Passport to the National Parks book where you stamp the book for each park that you visit. You'll find the stamp for the date of your visit at the visitor's center, although at Lassen you need to have the Ranger at the gate do it since their center is being rebuilt. It a fun part of visiting each park and only costs $7.95
