Re: v-strom VS tiger 1050
None? Looks like the new Tiger has lost its off-road side and I am probably not the only one who will tell you that the Strom's front wheel is quite hard to handle in soft terrain. On the road, the Suzuki is comfortable and powerful, but at low rpm it is quite jerky. Maybe they improved the injection on newer models. Is your choice limited to these two bikes?

Re: v-strom VS tiger 1050
I am open to any bike as long as it dual sports and dosnt go over 20Grand and that puts the BMW 1200 out of reach, But if you know of a better bike that i hav'nt considered im all ears. Eric what year model v-strom was jerky at low rpm.

Re: v-strom VS tiger 1050
Everybody who saw me fall in love on Sunday knows why I asked:
I would even prefer the taller S version (about $15K I think), but it seems like it does not come with the ABS option, and the real problem for me is the vertical distance between the seat and the pegs. The in-coming F800GS might fulfill some needs. Good power and torque on a sveltish bike is worth considering. We have all read nice reviews of the 12KGSA, but at $18K base price, it does make you think more than twice. The KTM will need added options too, and will be in the same final price range. With appropriate tires, the Strom might still be the best bang for our cheap bucks. Plastics are still expensive, so it will cost you if you feel compelled to keep it clean. From what I read on the ADV forum, the KTM 950 adventure is the thing to snatch. People are also complaining about the fuel injection on the 990. Same, I do not know if this problem has been addressed on the 2008 model. The problem is that at very low speed, you have nothing when you turn the throttle, then suddenly too much and the bike jerks forward. That is nasty on slippery grounds. Test ride all of them if you can. Also see how comfortable you feel on the highway. The Strom is famous for creating lots of turbulences at head level, more so if you are tall. I wear earplugs but this was obviously overlooked. Do you have to buy it new or is buying a used bike something you want to consider? |

Re: v-strom VS tiger 1050
I like the Tiger a really lot-- most of your riding would be on pavement just to get to off road, and most off road is logging and forest road anyway.
If you want roarty off road adventure then a 650 is a better choice IMHO. But that Tiger motor is a winner. And the F800? Could be a winner too-- but at what price? The Dollar is worth pesos now.... A year ago the Euro was at 1.31 and the pound at 1.41-1.58. The Euro is 1.45 and the pound? 2.05! The Tiger has its MSRP fixed right now so it can be called a bargain. Not sure if the F800 has an MSRP yet, but I suspect with the usual farkles it could approach $12K-- a lot for an 800. So at a little over $10K the Tiger speaks to me. But that's just me listenin'.

Re: v-strom VS tiger 1050
i gave the bmw 800f some thought before but im not sure how it would go for long highway, top speed trips especially two up. And yes i would consider second hand for sure. I would love to know if the tiger1050 comes with any off road typers, and i gess i would have to sell a kidney to replace the plastics if the bike was droped. Dose any one know the answers to these
questions. |

Re: v-strom VS tiger 1050
I've got a Tiger 1050 and love it. However, it really isn't an off road bike. The previous Tiger models are truly dual sport but this one is not. I've gone on fire roads with it but that's it. I haven't seen or heard of anyone equipping one for real off road use.
