Great Dale, Truly looking forward to it. Hoping you can make it. Glad that little incident up there hasn't dampened your spirits at all. In fact, since that's out of the way now, I'll have to consider you my good luck charm!

Re: 11,000 miles / 34 days - Meet along the way?

Matt - That's great, I'm looking forward to Yosemite as one of the main highlights of the whole trip. Will be leaving from the Sonora area on Saturday morning, that should allow plenty of time for pics along Sonorra Pass and the rest of the route to the park. My cell phone is pretty much useless between Chicago and California, except for Denver. That's why I need to know who's game prior to leaving home base. Once I get to Lake Tahoe area, I can start touching base with folks a few days in advance just to let them know that I'm still on track.

Tim - If we're in the same area on a particular day I'd sure like to know, even if we're passing going opposite directions. Would be nice to try to meet for lunch or dinner on the day that we pass each other going on the same road (I'm buying - the least I can do for all the e-space!!), take a few pics, etc.. It's certainly hard to miss my big red flag going down the road. Anyway, I'll take a hard look at the days you mentioned - maybe we can arrange something, even its just a quick hello / goodbye...

1911 - Sounds good - I'll be starting out from Dana Point (south of LA) that morning. Unless I really get crunched by morning LA traffic of which I've heard so many horror stories (can't be very much worse than Chicago), I hope to be in SLO early afternoon. I'll try to get an extra early start that day to beat the traffic.

Mark,

Wow! That sounds like a fantastic trip. I see why you just can't wait for it to begin. You will be in my neck of the woods on days 5 through 9. If I can make it work, I would love to connect, and ride with you some or all of that time. As your schedule gets firmer, let me know where we might meet. The same goes for day 16 and 17.

I noticed you are planning to stay in or go through Austin NV on day 5. I was just there last Tuesday, and they are currently plagued with crickets, and I do mean PLAGUED. They were not the small black variety, but were huge, brown, and ugly. The locals call them "Mormon Crickets" and say that they show up every year for 4 or 5 weeks. They have to constantly sweep them off their walks and doors, and they make a sickening "pop" as the cars and trucks run over them. Oh yeah, and the smell is stifling. Hopefully, they will be gone by the time you get there. If not, you might want to consider another stopping off place. I took some pictures, but don't have them available yet.
