Track day at Thunderhill
On Saturday and Sunday the 5th and 6th of June I rode up to Willows to the Thunderhill Track for a "Skills Improvement Day." It was hosted by River City Beemers club and was a blast. Most bikes were Beemers, but some CBRs and a Goldwing snuck in...
Rode up on Saturday (about 180 miles from home) and was rarin to go on Sunday morning! |

Track day at Thunderhill
Kept getting chased by the LT and the Goldwing... and I was closing in as well... it felt like I was leaning so far over in some of those turns... til I saw the photos!

Thunderhill has a couple of rough off-camber turns, and some interesting inclines... turn 5 and 11 are the roughest. I left the track twice on turn 11, right into the grass. Mostly I kept the bike on, but there were some too hot turns that's for sure...

Turn 5 here gave me the most challenge... you had to enter it right on the outside line and lean the bike all the way over immediately, or you'd overshoot it and not get out of the turn cause it goes down and right as soon as you clear the top... I kept trying NOT to look at my speedo, but I was hitting the turns at around 60-70 (in the slow group that day for sure)! The K1200 guy just kept blowing me away...Here's a lineup of the bikes...

I got a little intimidated when they opened the track to all levels of riders... but I crossed the line having a blast!

 I'd love to do a track day someday. I was born in Willows - Thunderhill might be a good reason to return.
